Representing Twin Valley were Amy Yuninger, daughter of Mr. Robert Yuninger of Honey Brook; Eric Wisniewski, son of Mrs. Eileen Smutek of Mohnton RD; and Thomas Morgan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Morgan, Sr. of Birdsboro, RD. The conservation camp pro vides students with a first-hand experience to investigate environ mental problems in such areas as water quality, wildlife manage ment and land use. With its own director, the camp utilizes special ists in many different areas. For example, Duane Pysher, Berks County Soil Conservations, spoke to the group on how soil erosion can influence water quality and what can be done to reduce pollu tion problems through soil conser vation. A representative of the Pennsylvania Game Commission spoke on the types of waterfowl found on the bay and in southeast ern Pennsylvania as well as how to identify them. We spent every day from 9 to 4 in class just like in school, but they made it fun to learn.” Students learned first-hand about the pollu tion problems of the Bay and how they can be detected and measured. Basic scientific principles were taught to students and tests were run. Students measured the quality of water both above and below a local sewage treatment plant. They found over four times as many dif ferent types of aquatic organisms above the plant than below. This is a sure indication that some form of pollution is occurring. Last year we started in October and hoped to finish in April,” Ruth states. Her mother was an avid quiltcr and Ruth learned the skill at home; however, it has only been recently that she feels she can take the time to put the skill to use. She does, however, continue to enjoy sewing for herself. She said the final price of the quilts in the auction depends upon the workmanship, the color schemes and the patterns. “We try to get color schemes that are in, and we try to have one of a kind.” It gives her satisfaction to see EAR CORN Wet or Dry No Quantity too large or too small Fast Unloading - Dump on Pile & Go Easy access - 2.2 miles off 283 bypass- Manheim, Mt.
