Four State Poultry Agreement
(Continued from Pag* A 1)
will develop a model plan for the
prevention, control and eradica
tion of poultry diseases. Each state
will develop laws and regulations
to implement the model plan and
the Council and industry will deve
lop a model bio-security plan. DPI
will continue to act as a coordinat
ing body in case of a disease
problem.
Work on the agreement
endorsed by the governors began
about two years ago as an effort of
DPI and the departments of agri
culture in Delaware, Maryland and
Virginia. Pennsylvania, upon hear
ing of this work, asked to join and
was made part of the group. Other
states in the area are invited to
become a part of the agreement.
Four states and the U.S. Department of Agriculture were represented by
their ag department leaders at the Mid-Atlantic Poultry Health Management
Plan signing ceremony in Salisbury, Md. The plan calls for cooperation among
Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia in preventing and monitoring
poultry diseases, particularly avian influenza. Shown, left to right, are Secre
tary Richard Lyng, U.S.D.A.; Commissioner S. Mason Carbaugh, Virginia
Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services; Maryland Agriculture
Secretary Wayne A. Cawley; Delaware Agriculture Secretary William B.
Chandler, Jr.; and Pennsylvania Agriculture Secretary Boyd Wolff.
DO YOU LOVE YOUR NEIGHBORS
AS GOOD AS YOURSELF?
Then don’t pollute his water and food. The life you save may even be
your own or your families, or a cow.
There’s no excuse. Our customers are getting top crops in quantity,
quality and feed value. And the bugs can’t stand the sugar in the crops.
The good Creator designed that they leave good crops for his obedient
children, but devour the crops that are not healthful to eat. People are
learning fast now that he knew best after all.
Apply our long lasting, non dissipating soil products this fall for
next year, to condition the soil. Then next year you have it easy no
insecticide nor much fertilizer to pay for, not high veterinarian bills.
Then you can survive hard times when some others can not! “The
curse causeless shall not come.” Prov. 26:2. Also some serious weed
problems are greatly lessened by a balanced organic soil with
recommendations from a good sharp agronomist who formulates
some of the products we sell - the NEMA line. The weed curse is en
hanced by certain toxic conditions and imblances in the soil. Our
company has experience in helping you. Make an appointment to come
and talk it over.

Two driving forces behind this
have been Dr. Arch Park, Mary
land State Veterinarian, and Dr.
Frank R. Craig, retired Senior Vice
President of Technical Services for
PerdueFarms, Inc. and Chairman
of DPl’s Emergency Poultry Dis
ease Task Force. The poultry
industries are major employers and
significant economic contributors
to the four states. They are highly
integrated and inter-related and a
disease problem in one could lead
to problems in the others. It was
because of these factors that the
states decided to work together.
The signing ceremony in Salis
bury was attended by; from Mary
land - Governor William Donald
Schaefer, Secretary of Agriculture
Wayne A. Cawley and State Veter
inarian Dr. Arch Park; from Dela
ware - Ott Brown, representing
Governor Michael N. Castle, Sec
retary of Agriculture William B.
Chandler, Jr. and Stale Veterina
rian Dr. Wesley Towers; from
Pennsylvania - Secretary of Agri
culture Boyd Wolff and State Vet
erinarian Dr. Van Buskirk; from
Virginia - Commissioner of Agri
culture and Consumer Services S.
