A referendum in which dairy
fanners shipping milk to the East-
em Ohio-Western Pennsylvania
milk marketing area will have an
- opportunity of expressing their
approval or disapproval of an
amended order, will be concluded
on August 7, 1987.
The amended order will include
the terms and provisions of the
order currently regulating the
handling of milk in the Eastern
Ohio-Western Pennsylvania
marketing area with the following
changes and modifications:
• The proposed amendatory
action would amend the above
named order by reclassifying from
Class 111 to Class II skim milk and
butterfat used to produce eggnog,
ice cream and other related frozen
dessert products.
Qualified cooperative associa
tions of producers will be permit
ted to cast bloc votes on behalf of
their members on all provisions of
the amended order.

Sign-up Underway
YORK The fifth sign-up for
the Conservation Reserve Program
(CRP) is from July 20-31, 1987.
According to W. Dean Manifold of
Stewartstown, “Operators and
landowners may offer highly cred
ible acres of cropland for CRP and
receive annual rental payments
from the U.S. Department of Agri
culture. Each applicant may com
petitively bid on the rents per acre
to idle the acreage for a 10-year
period.”

cropped 2 of 5 years from
1981-1985, and have .a highly
credible classification. Eligible

A notice of referendum, a deci
sion which contains the provisions
of the order as proposed to be
amended, and a ballot have been
mailed to all known eligible vot
ers. No voting by proxy is permit
ted and each producer will be
entitled to only one vote regardless
of the number of farms he oper
ates. Partnerships, corporations
and other business organizations
which operate dairy farms will be
entitled to only one vote regardless
of the number of partners, share
holders, or others which make up
the organization.
The amended order was consid
ered at a public hearing held in
Romulus, Michigan on October
28, 1986.
Dairy farmers who may not
have received a ballot through the
mail and who feel that they are
eligible to vote should call the

cash rent cropland to farmers may
submit a CRP after they operate
the farm for the one (1) year or pro
vide evidence that the farm opera

Bidders may select the effective
year of the contract as 1987 or
1988. Acreage for 1987 cannot
have been harvested including
haying. Cropland offered for 1988
CRP’s may not be grazed after
October 1, 1987 or after noimal
harvest of 1987 crops.
