Registration will be held at 12:30 p.m. in the Cow Palace,’ with the contest start ing promptly at 1 p.m. The contest sponsored by the Maryland Purebred Dairy Cattle Association Inc., features a $3OO scholarship for die top individual winner. Lee McFarlane, State Coor dinator for the National Endow ment Awards Program, presenting the award at the annual meeting of the Maryland Association of Con servation Districts in Ocean City, stressed the importance of public recognition for farmers who make conservation a priority in their day-to-day operations. “Conservation is an essential investment in a healthy agricul ture, said McFarlane. “Maryland’s number one industry is agricul ture,” he continued, “but many folks see us an an urban state. The Junior Dairyman Contest covers all aspects of the dairy industry. There are four judging classes including dairy heifers, dairy cows, dairy goats and dairy steers. Identification classes include dairy products, milking system and the milking process, and feedstuffs and weeds.
