BY PAT PURCELL QUARRYVILLE Lancaster County 4-H Dairy Show on Wed nesday, July 22, held a few sur prises for both contestants and spectators. There is a new name in the listof Lancaster County winners, but a name that is not new to winning. Holly J. Welty of Mt. Joy captured Holstein'grand champion with her 7 year-old entry and Thomas McCauley took the reserve grand champion position with his 4 year old. Welty, 15, moved to Lancaster County from New York state just two weeks ago. Her entry, Maybia Miller Farm Willow Suzie look grand champion August of 1986 at the New York State Fair. Judge Jed Beshore selected the 7 year old because of her overall sharpness and cleanness of lines, her tremendous body and specifi cally her strong rear and front udder attachment. Welty also took a first in the senior dry cow 2 years and over and Ron Welty took first in the intermediate calf class. Robert Barley of Conestoga won junior breed champion with his first place winner in the senior calf class. Kauffman took reserve junior champion with her junior yearling Beshore said Wednesday’s show exhibited some very good milking animals and that the over all quality of the animals was a great improvement over the past several years. Guernsey Show Capturing the grand champion spot m the Guernsey show was 10-year-old Scott Wagner of Quar ryville. Wagner has been showing BoJoy Rev.
