04-Lancaster Farming Saturday, July 25, 1987 The National Junior Shorthorn Show and Youth Conference, held July 7-10 in Terre Haute, In., proved to be one of the largest and most well attended National Junior Shorthorn events in its history, combining extreme quality of cattle, deep in every class, and a very enthusiastic group of junior Shorthorn breeders, actively involved in promoting their breed. Eighteen states were represented in the week’s activities accounting for 181 heifers and 73 steers vying for the National Junior Shorthorn titles. Placing the show’s some 254 entries were Tom Stewman, Maryneal, Tx., and Martin Stan ley, Bleiblerville, Tx. The heifer show brought together some of the most exciting genetics from across the entire country from Pennsylvania to Ore gon and North Dakota to Texas. Stewman earlier selected her as the Summer Champion. She carried the impressive statistics of 900 pounds with 2.51 pound WDA and measured 52.75 inches for a 7.9 frame score. Jett also went on to capture the best pair of females with her Grand Champion, entry GS Roan Betty DPB6 and GS Lady Calypson DPB6, a May ’B6 female also sired by GS Deerpark ET. The Reserve Grand Champion title went to the Junior Champion female, CSF Maine Lady 86, shown by Kevin Sugden, Rock ford, 111. This powerful, spring yearling was sired by CSF Big Event 78 and was out of CSF Alp ha MA. CSF Maine Lady 86 was a stout made, heavy muscled, high volumed April ’B6 heifer with a world of performance and correct ness. She weighed 1,200 pounds with a 2.61 pound WDA and was 53.75 inches at the hip for a 7.7 frame score.
