County Farm-City Day activities
culminated in the Dairy Princess
pageant at the Jon Reese farm near
Guys Mills on June 271 h. Wearing
the dairy princess crown for 1987
is Junia Laughery of Union City,.
Two alternates were named: Lon
Black of Saegertown and Michelle
Rambo of Meadville.
Junta, the daughter of Edward
and Julie Laughery, is 18 and a
1987 graduate of Union City High
School. She was last year’s Alter
nate Dairy Princess. A member of
the Milking Shorthorn Associa
tion, she has held many offices in
4-H and is a member of FFA. She
was president of her high school’s
chapter of SADD and was a mem
ber of the yearbook staff.
She helps her parents manage 80
Milking Shorthorns and owns 13
cows. Junia plans to attend Gan
non University to study to become
a legal assistant.
Alternate Lori Black, the
daughter of Richard and Jean
Black, is 17 and will be a senior at
Saegertown High School, major
ing in the academic curriculum.
She has been a member of 4-H for
many years and participated in the
4-H Interstate Exchange Program.
She is a member of Crawford
County Jr. Holsteins and the State
“Take Quality Home ”

Penn State to major in dairy
production.
Alternate Michelle Rambo, the
daughter of Bonita Rambo, is 18
and a 1987 graduate of Meadville
Area Senior High School, where
she was on the school newspaper
staff and in the Vo-tech Coopera
tive Program. She is a member of
Pymatuning 4-H and has three
project animals. She has taken 15
years of dance and has been in a
bowling league for seven years.
Master of Ceremonies for the
evening was Phil Taylor of Venan
go County Cooperative Extension
Service. Taylor introduced the
contestants: Lori Black, Junia
Laughery and Michelle Rambo.
For her presentation. Black did
an impression of Ernest T. talking
to his old friend Vem about “White
Light.”
Laughery pretended that she
was a little girl talking to her teddy
bear at bedtime about how she
could help her daddy to advertise
dairy products using her Millie the
Cow puppet.
In Rambo’s presentation, she
talked to a Raggedy Ann doll who
had broken her arm and told that if
she didn’t get her act together and
drink her milk, she might get
osteoporosis.
Following presentations, Bon
nie Krider gave a Salute to Spon-

products?”

Judges for the event were Carol
Gregg of Grove City, a farm wife
and correspondent for “Farm
shine”; Cheryl Pavkov, a farm wife
from McKean; and Sam Wagner of
Tionesta, county commissioner for
Forest County.
Best Presentation Award went
to Junia Laughery. Following the
pageant, strawberry shortcake was
served with real whipped cream.
