Major Dairy Sales
And Dispersals
Nationwide
Reports from three sales for the
week of July 10 to 15 averaged
$2,389 on 220 head. The sales
were held in Minnesota and India
na. The top prices at the sales
ranged from $2,100 to $105,000.
The following is a brief look at the
results of these sales.
GUERNSEY
The GRAUBAU DISPERSAL
held in Minnesota averaged an
unoffical $755 on 96 head.
Topping the sale on a bid of
$2,100 was a 4 year old sired by
Premier. She will freshen in Sep
tember to Fayette. She completed a
best effort of 13,100 milk, 670 fat,
and 524 protein.
Second in the bidding with a
price of $1,650 was a 5 year old by
Telstar. The VG-85 cow sold open.
She produced a high record of
15,000 milk, 641 fat. and 509
protein.
Gary Esies served as auctioneer
and the Guernsey Marketing Ser
vice managed the sale.
HOLSTEIN
The INDIANA STATE SALE
averaged $1,785 on 72 head.
Topping the sale on a bid of
$11,750 was a 5 year old sired by
Bell. She sold bred to calve in Sep
tember with a Monarch Milky
Way calf. The VG-85 cow sold
with a $4,000 bull contract and a
six embryo guarantee. She pro
duced a best effort of 28,650 mdk
and 1,210 fat in 365 days. She
owns a Cow Index of plus 3,089
milk, plus 217 fat and plus 70 pro
tein with a CTPI of plus 801.
Her dam, a GP-84 Pete daught
er, carries a CTPI of plus 682. She
completed a high record of 28,840
milk and 1,206 fat in 365 days. The
next dam, VG-85, registered a top
lactation of 27,280 milk and 1,042
fat in 282 days.
An April 1987 heifer sired by
Valiant garnered the second high
price of $6,200. Her dam, a VG-85
Chairman daughter, ranks 10th on
the CTPI list with a CTPI of plus
1,136. She carries a Cow Index of

her first calf lactation she produced
a record of 34,290 milk and 1,859
fat with a 5.4 test.
The next dam classified VG-88
GMD. She produced a top record
of 30,590 milk and 1,248 fat The
third dam classified VG-86 with
records to 29,860 milk.
Price and Leffler managed the
sale. The Indiana Holstein Associ
ation sponsored the sale.
The GOLDEN GOPHER X
SALE held in Minnesota averaged
$4,627 on 52 lots. Without the sale
topper, the sale averaged $2,659
on 51 lots.
Topping the sale on a bid of
$105,000 was a four-bull package
out of the Tandy Bell Serene cow.
The bulls were sired by Royalty,
Rotate, Secret and Enhancer. Two
bull have been bom, one is due in

recently flushed.
Serene classified EX-92 at 4
years and carries a Cow Index of
plus 1,692 and plus $213 with a
CTPI of plus 1,002. This CTPI
ranked her 36th in the nation last
year. Her record in progress, in 294
days, stands at 26,222 milk and
1,318 fat.
Her dam, EX-91, produced sev
eral records over 30,000 milk with
a top of 34,210 milk and 1,488 fat.
The second high price of
$27,000 came on a VG-88 Warden
3 year old. She captured the grand
champion and best udder titles at
the state show held the day after
the sale. Selling fresh, she pro
duced a best effort of 16,664 milk
and 695 fat in 365 days.
Her dam classified VG-85. The
next two dams produced lifetime
efforts of 150,(XX) milk. The fourth
dam registered a lifetime produc
tion of 230,149 milk.
Jim Kraus, executive secretary
treasurer for the Minnesota Hols
tein Association, said the sale was
the best in the history of the sale.
He noted quality animals are sell
ing for good prices.
