Thomas Sims, director of the university’s soil laboratory. Mark Isaacs, uni versity crop research associate, will then present a brief slide show on the effects of poultry manure on winter wheat. Harris will give the final sfide presentation from 10:40 a.m. to"l 1 a.m. His subject will be the MAN URE program. The title is an acronym for “Managing Agricul tural Nutrients and Utilitizing Resources Effectively.” An outdoor tour will follow the slide presentations. Participants can visit six demonstration plots in which irrigated com was treated with different amounts of poultry manure, both alone and in combi nation with commercial fertilizers. Proper poultry manure storage methods will be demonstrated next. Participants will learn how to stack and shape a manure pile and how to cover it properly. Isaacs will then show how to sample the piles for nitrogen and other nutri ents to determine the necessary application rates. The program will end with a demonstration of proper spreader calibration from 11:30 a.m. to 11:55 a.m. In addition to the formal prog ram, field day participants will be Washington Co.
