HUNTINGDON - “I don’t know.
I’ll keep my fingers crossed,”
replied Anne Whitney when asked
if she and Winterbury Marvin’s
Caress, a 3-year-old Nubian, would
repeat their best of show per
formance of a week ago at the
Delaware Valley Goat Association
Show.
They made it two in a row here
June 21 at the sanctioned com
petition staged by the Penn
sylvania Dairy Goat Association.
More than 500 head were shown.
Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Ted Hoover presented the
champion rosette for the Miss Pennsylvania class to Ann
Whitney. The class featured Pennsylvania bred and owned
animals.

Dolly Peifer showed the grand champion Recorded Grade
with reserve horihrs going to the entry owned by Glenn Fox.
As the seven breed champions in
the senior doe show lined up in
search of the top prize, judge Joe
Kimmel of Broughton, 111., noted,
“There’re some very nice dairy
animals here, some ribs showing
and udders bulging. That’s what
we like to see.” As he singled out
Whitney’s Nubian, he added,
“She’s cleaner in all her joints and
has the advantage of extension in
the fore udder and depth of rib. ”
In close contention with the
Nubian, Kimmel said, was the La
Mancha grand champion, Jan
Hareth Hed’s Surave Rachel,
owned by Christopher Worden of
Greensboro, Md.
Susan Meas of New Albany
exhibited her grand champion
Toggenburg, Poet Hill Till
Macaroon, a 3-year-old, to the best
udder of show. Kimmel requested
the competitors be milked out so he
could determine each udder’s
flexibility, collapsability and
pliability. In giving his nod to the
Toggenburg, he said she “was
carrying as much milk into the
ring as any doe in the show’’ and
praised her extension of fore ud
der, width and capacity.
In the junior doe show, for
animals not yet in milk, Meas
earned best of show for her Nubian
yearling, Gatewood Tough Cookie.
Ann Miller of Furlong stood in
with the best buck of the senior
show, a La Mancha, Mountain
Magic Dynamic Ace.
Christopher Worden bested
nearly 150 head in the youth show
to take the prize for best of show
honor with his Nubian, CH Wor
den’s Acres Elizabeth.
