Nutrition Students Win National ‘Community Kneads 9 Contest LANCASTER - The Lancaster Mennonite High School Foods and Nutrition II class, under the direction of teacher Deborah Van Pelt, recently won the top prize in the Fleischmann’s Yeast national “Community Kneads” contest with first place in the Eastern region and in the state. For their project, titled “Rise Above Yourself,” the 15 students taught nutrition and bread baking to elderly and mentally retarded residents of the MountviUe Pines Personal Care Home, 128 West Main St., MountviUe. The students used a slide show, skit and a nutrition shuffle-board game to show how the four food groups are an important part of good eating and snacking. In addition, they helped the residents experiment with easy recipes that are high in protein, calcium and fiber and low in salt, sugar and fat. Concerned about the residents as total persons, the students also introduced simple exercises and made one-to-one visitation an BUCKETS & FORKS For Skid Steer Loaders Bait To Order AVAILABLE FOR MOST MAKES AND MODELS • BUCKETS Various Shapes And Widths According To Order Bucket Cutting Edge Available, Beveled One Side, Any Length. 5 Sizes; 3/8”x3”, %”x3”, %”x4”, %”x4”, 5/8”x6” Rubber Edges Available For Scraper Blades WHOLESALE AND RETAIL • FORKS 40” to 72” Standard Speekl Sizes AzaHeble ATI CORPORATION 325 West Main St. New Holland, PA 17557 (717) 354-8721 Greencastle Livestock Auction Greencastle, Pa. The students also won a $l5O pizza party which they shared with the residents at the Mountville Pines Personal Care Home. Van Pelt, as the teacher, won a $3,000 trip. The winning entry, a 100-page journal of writings and photos that was presented to Fleischmann’s in March, capsulizes the daily events of the project. The yearly contest is designed to help home economics or health students in the United States learn how to prepare yeast breads and become involved in their communities. Last year the Foods and Nutrition II students at LMH won first place in the state and second place in the Eastern region of the country.
