The number slaughtered was 13,500, up 12 percent from last April. The average liveweight was -un changed at 99 pounds. The blacksmith shop reminded me of the times that I led our two work horses, Ben and Fred, to the shop five miles away. No, I wasn’t allowed to ride them. I had to lead them to the shop. The most interesting demon stration to me was the flax and wool processing. I’m always amazed at the time consumed in making a small amount of thread. And, then when I considered that it had yet to be woven into cloth. Even the preparation of the flax plants, before spinning could begin, was tremendously time consuming. When I grew flax in my garden, I always enjoyed the beautiful small blue flowers that it had.
