TOWANDA - Although one inch
short of the proverbial five feet
two, she has eyes of blue and she is
Bradford County’s new dairy
princess. Petite blonde Cheryl
Taylor, the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Taylor, R 1 Rome,
garnered the judges’ votes in
Bradford County’s dairy princess
pageant Saturday night at the
Towanda Middle School.
Wearing a pale blue floor length
gown. Miss Taylor was chosen
from a field of three contestants.
Two hundred people attended the
event.
Bonnie Duffield, the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Horace Duffield of
R 1 Wyalusmg, was elected first
alternate. Michele Hollenback, the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Russell
Hollenback of R 3 Towanda, was
chosen second alternate.
Miss Taylor, who said she was
‘stunned, but happy” to be the new
dairy princess, is a junior at
Northeast Bradford High School
with plans to major in pre-med at
Penn State after graduation. Miss
Taylor says she helps around her
parents’ 220-acre dairy farm
where needed, but often functions
as a “gopher.” The Taylors are
currently milking 50 of their 95-cow
dairy herd.
Naming qualities she possesses
that will make her an effective
dairy princess, Miss Taylor says,
“I love to be around people and
would like to educate them about
milk so they know how good it is for
them.”
Dressed in blue jeans and a
straw hat, Miss Taylor sang and
accompanied herself on the piano
as part of her dairy skit. She sang a
commercial she had written which
extolled the virtues of drinking
milk.
The interests of the new princess
include playing the piano,
swimming, hiking, cooking and
baking. Very much musically
inclined, she is a church pianist,

In her dairy presentation Bonnie
Duffield, first alternate, costumed
as a cow, sang lyrics she had
composed about the good qualities
of milk to the tune of “Turkey in
the Straw." Miss Duffield is a
junior at Wyalusmg High School
with plans to major in pre-med
after high school graduation. The
Duffields have a 296-acre dairy
farm near Camptown and are
presently milking 54 black and
white and red and white Holsteins.
Michele Hollenback, second
alternate, presented her view of
the value of milk through the eyes
of a little girl while pedaling a
small tractor on stage. A junior at
Troy Area High School, Michele
plans to become an X-ray
technician after high school. The
Hollenbacks have a herd of 100
