Members of Lancaster Society 1
held their mother/daugbter
banquet May 1 at the Brunnerville
Fireball. Twenty-nine members
and 46 guests attended.
President Ann Landis opened the
meeting by reading the poem
entitled “What God Has Given
Me.”
Members responded to roll call
by introducing their guests and
quoting a bible verse with the word
“Love” in it.
For devotions, Grace Moyer
read segments from the book of Ist
Samuel which told of the biblical
mother Hannah. She also read a
poem entitled “Mother Mine,”
which she dedicated to her own
mother, Kathryn Ehst.

farmer and a member of Society 2,

Mary Denlinger entertained
members of Society 7 May 9.
The group opened the meeting by
singing “My Wild Irish Rose.”
Mary Denlinger read the 119th
Psalm and a poem for Mother’s
Day, which was followed by
prayer.
The minutes of the April meeting
and the treasurer’s report were
accepted. Seventeen members
responded to roll call by telling

Members of Lancaster Society 24
met at the “Design Detail Shop’’ in
Lancaster April 28 for their
regular monthly meeting. After
the program, the members went to
Elby’s for a business meeting and
refreshments.
Lancaster Society 25
Nineteen members and guests of
Lancaster Society 25 met at the
home of Helen Happle, 114 Musser
Ave., Lancaster, May 9.
For devotions, Miriam Byers
read Psalm 37:1-11 and the poem
“Do It Now” from Ideals.
A food sale at John Herr’s store
was a success.
Bea Newswanger made 19
soppers and 29 bed pads. The group
made a donation to the Dairy
Princess Association.

celebrated an 80th birthday, was
honored and presented with the
Farm Women’s 80th year birthday

Three members, Violet Adams,
Ann Sangrey and Martha Jane
Brubaker sewed at Lancaster
General Hospital April 27.
Barbara Hershey of 304 Newport
Road, Lititz, will host the next
meeting .of Society 1 on June 6.
Guest speaker for this meeting will
be Jean Roth. She will portray
Harriet Lane, who was a niece of
President Buchanan.

Landis, Betty Wenger and Frances
Eshelman.
Highlight of the meeting was a
plant and food auction with Aura
Eby acting as auctioneer.
The group will celebrate its
annual birthday party at the Leola
Family Restaurant Oct. 10. Joyce
and Arthur Hershey will be the
guest speakers.
The group took a trip to St.
Michaels, Md. May 12.
Society 26 entertained the group
April 28, when Lydia Potts of
Millersville presented an “Image
Improvement” program.
Lorri Rutt, alternate county
dairy princess from Quarryville,
spoke about the value of dairy
products in the diet. Her theme
was “How to keep your body
healthy and happy.”
The next meeting will be held
June 13 at the home of Phyllis
Reapsome, 1254 New Danville
Pike, Lancaster. Dorothy Elmer
will give a book report.
Monday, May 18
Lancaster Society 29 meets at St.
Mark’s Church, Mt. Joy, at 7
p.m. to entertain Society 27.
Lancaster Society 34 entertains at
Mechanic Grove Church of the
Brethren. Marion Thomas will
demonstrate wheat weaving.
Wednesday, May 20
Farm Women Spring Rally,
Elizabethtown College.
Berks Group 9
Members of Berks Group 9 met
May 6 in the home of Karen
Sdireier, Douglasville. Eight
members were present to hear
Debra McCone of the Berks
Women in Crisis discuss family
violence.
Next month’s meeting will be
held June 3 with Tom and David
Hendricks discussing their trip to
Philmont Scout Ranch.
Lancaster To Host
Farm Women
Rally
LANCASTER Lancaster
County Farm Women will host the
state Farm Women Spring Rally at
Elizabethtown College May 20.
Speaker for this statewide event
will be Ann Kaiser, editor of Farm
Woman News. Kaiser is best
known for her “editor on the farm”
series of articles which she writes
each month about her visits to
various farming operations
throughout the country.
Kaiser has been editor of Farm
Woman News since 1971, and is a
native of Hartland, Wise. The
monthly publication has a cir
culation of over 300,000.
The rally is scheduled to begin at
11 a.m. in the Thompson Gym at
Elizabethtown College. It is one of
two statewide events held by
Pennsylvania’s Farm Women
Societies and draws over 1,000
women.
Alfred Student
Receives $l,OOO
Scholarship
ALFRED, N.Y. - Darin G.
Lowe of Pavilion received a $l,OOO
scholarship donated by an Alfred
businessman during Alfred State
College’s third annual Honors
Convocation.
Lowe is the first recipient of the
award established by Kenneth
Snyder of Alfred to honor his
parents who were engaged in
fanning for 30 years. The award
goes to an incoming Alfred State
freshman who plans to major in
agriculture.
Snyder’s mother, who was
present at the Convocation and
introduced to the audience, now
resides in the Village of Alfred.
Her husband died in 1959.
Under terms of the Snyder
scholarship, recipients are
selected on the basis of scholastic
achievement, with preference
given to candidates who reside in
Western New York.
Lowe, a 1986 graduate of
Pavilion Central School, is enrolled
in animal husbandry.
