FREDERICK, Md. - Royal
Bobbi commanded a royal price at
the Maryland Polled Hereford
Association’s 14th annual Black-
Eyed Susan Sale at the Frederick
Fairground last week. Royal Bobbi
was chosen as champion cow at the
show which preceded the evening
sale.
The “young, stylish” daughter of
Domino, consigned by Kevin J.
Diehl of Fairfield, Pennsylvania,
brought a top bid of $1675. Her
February 1 heifer calf was sired by
Nick the Butler. Cow and calf were
purchased by Church View Farm,
Millersville, Maryland.
A 1,715-pound bull named Max
Driver strutted his stuff in the ring
for a top bid of $ll5O. The cham
pion bull was consigned by John
and Janet Humphrey of Patton,
Pennsylvania. The son of Miss
Enforcer, sired by Bluehills Hill
Driver, weighed in at 86 pounds at
birth in 1985 with a 205-day weight
of 726. As a yearling, he weighed

Pa. Offerings Top Md. Polled Hereford Sale
1183 pounds, and his height at 20
months was 56 inches. The top
selling bull was purchased by
Calvin Sayler of Rocky Ridge,
Maryland.
Sellers and buyers looking for
red came from North Carolina,
New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia
and Maryland to join the standing
room-only crowd. Some of the most
popular bloodlines were
represented at the sale, with
pedigrees that boasted sires such
as Enforcer, Driver, Victor and
Prophet. Sale chairman John
Wilkins said the cattle at the sale
“are the type that will work and
perform in any herd. I don’t think I
have ever seen a better set of cattle
than the ones we have here
tonight.”
A total of 46 paraded through the
sale ring at an average of $734.
Serving as auctioneer for the
evening was Bryan Blinson.
Judge Bob Dillner awarded
ribbons to top cattle in the show.
Champion senior heifer consigned
Pine Haven Farm
by Someday Farm, Libertytown,
Maryland, went to Dale Sheats of
Sparks, Md., for $295. The two
year-old, sired by Commander,
was also selected as reserve heifer
champion at the 1985 Maryland
Fall Show.
Miss Prophette, champion junior
heifer, was consigned by Flat
Stone Lick. A daughter of Prophet,
she boasts EBV’s after calving of
more than 100. Prophette brought
the second highest bid of the
evening at $ll5O. She was pur
chased by Greenbriar Farm in
Keedysville, Maryland.
A daughter of a national
champion bull was sent through
the ring as lot 6x. Clementine,
consigned by Spring Run Farm,
Abbottstown, Pa., was the reserve
champion female at the 1982
Maryland State Fair and at the
1983 Pennsylvania Farm Show.
The Maryland bred cow brought a
high bid of $lOOO. She will return to
Pennsylvania to Spring Bottom
Farm in Fairfield.
