MEADVILLE - Quality calves
from excellent bloodlines were the
‘pot of gold’ for buyers at the Irish
Holiday Sale March 21.
The top of the lot was
LF-Queens-Manor Valid-ET. The
year old bull commanded $6,000
and went to United Breeders,
Ontario. Valid was one of three
bulls sold from the Leadfield
Glamourous Eve cow. Classified
EX-92, she produced a 5 year old
record of 40,309 pounds of milk and
1,452 pounds of fat. This Valiant
son was consigned by
Queens-Manor Holsteins, Lead
field Associates, and Gayle Car
son.
Two females shared the
limelight by selling for the high bid
of $5,600.
LF-Queens-Manor Fortune-ET
was sired by Mel-est Valiant Irose
Melvin and out of the Eve cow. She
sold to Obsession Haven Holsteins
in lowa. The white heifer was
consigned by Queens-Manor,
Leadfield and Carson.
DT-Queens-Manor Ballero-ET,
a November calf, was the second

SHARTLESVILLE - The
Berks-Lebanon-Schuylkil County
Guernsey Breeders Association
held their annual dinner meeting
recently at the Shartlesville
Grange.
Officers re-elected include;
Jerry Krone, president; Carl
Hollenbach, vice president; David
Smith, secretary; and Robert
Smith, treasurer. Ray Stoltzfus
and Miles Hollenbach retained
their director positions.
Guernsey mugs were given to
the following junior members who
completed Guernsey 4-H and FFA
projects last year: Sherri Zollers,
Andy Zollers, Carl Miller, Kevin
Schlegel, Heidi Schlegel, Clayton
Snyder, Becky Snyder, Amy
Hollenbach, Susan Hollenbach,
Tom Hostetter, Chanty Hostetter
and Karen Heilmger.

Valiant Son Tops Irish Holiday Calf Sale

Balboa took the championship at
the Pennsylvania Holstein Show in
September 1985 as a senior 2 year
old and was nominated for the
All-American 2 year old honor.
Classified VG-89 EX-MS, she has a
31,745 pounds milk record to her
credit. Carson, who read
pedigrees, said of Balboa, “I just
saw her yesterday and she looks
great...she’ll be one of the greats."
The two Sweet-Haven Tradition
daughters were consigned by
Queens-Manor, David Dowler and
David Thomas.
One other consignment broke the
$5,000 mark, a full brother to the
Balboa heifers. DT-Queens-Manor
Rocky-ET sold to United
Breeders.
According to sale manager Ed
Doeberiener it was “a real good
sale” with many of the animals
going out of state. Buyers came
from Canada, California, Florida,
lowa, Wisconsin, Maryland, South
William Zollers Sr. reported on
the Pennsylvania Guernsey
Breeders state meeting held
March 7 in Pittsburgh. Zollers,
chairman of the National Guern
sey Breeders Convention, en
couraged the group to attend the
convention slated for the Sheraton
in Pittsburgh, May 21 to 25. Sherri
Zollers detailed the youth ac
tivities planned for the' national
convention.
Lee Yost, business manager for
the Pennsylvania Guernsey
Association, explained the ac
tivities of the state group and the
sale of the Guernsey Barn in
Lancaster.
Millie Linde Widmann concluded
the program with a slide
presentation on her trip to the
World Guernsey Conference held
last year in Australia.
