ACRES CORN UPDATE: Corn
futures closed from $ .01 to $.Ol-3/4
lower on commercial selling linked
to the completion of Taiwan’s US
com purchase. Com was also
under pressured from ideas that
the CCC would be making changes
in order to make PIK and ROLL
work better. March com continues
to face pressure from local selling
linked to long liquidation before
Friday’s expiration of the March
option on the board.
ACRES SOYBEAN UPDATE:
Soybean futures closed from un
changed to up 01-1/4 cents and
settled near session highs boosted
by commercial and commission
house buying. Also supporting
beans today were the continued
slow interior move ment and a
stronger tone at the Gulf. Short
covering was noted in old crop on

3/4 cent to up 2 cents on good broad
based follow through buying in the
deferreds. Losses in the nearby
were attributed to commission
house selling associated with profit
taking on ideas that yesterday’s

mercial stopping of deliveries
against the March option un
derpinned prices, but continued
long liquidation pushed March
lower.
ACRES CATTLE UPDATE:
Cattle futures closed higher again
today in good follow through
buying from Tuesday’s close. The

was slightly higher again today,
adding a firm tone to both live and
feeder cattle futures. Strong
packer demand and active boxed
beef trade added support
throughout the session. Yield
Grade #3 choice steers printed
steady to $3.00 higher at $91.00 to
$92.00.
CME FEEDER CATTLE
SETTLEMENT: $67.65 as of
3/16/87 + $.04.
Estimated slaughter today was
123.000 to 126,000 compared to
124.000 yesterday.
ACRES HOG UPDATE: Hog
futures closed rallied today,
closing as much 63 points higher in
April. Pork belly futures were
limit up in the first three options.
The cash market added support
again today with scratch tops of
$51.00 at some terminals. Rumors
of wet weather conditions
restricting movement also added
support in late trading.
Estimated slaughter today was
292.000 compared with 302,000
yesterday.
