MEYERSDALE - Each year
with the coming of Spring, Mother
Nature treats us to her sweetest
gift maple syrup, and each year
tiie Pennsylvania Maple Festival
celebrates this natural
phenomena. The 40th Annual
Pennsylvania Maple Festival will
be held in Meyersdale, April 4,5,
and 8 through 12.
Festival Park, which is located
on Meyers Avenue, will be the
center of many of the Festival’s
activities and exhibitions. Here,
visitors can witness the tapping of
the maple trees, making of maple
syrup, sugar cakes, candy,
“spotza”, crumb sugar and other
maple goodies and be able to buy
some to take home.
Pennsylvania Maple Festival Scheduled For April
Also in Festival Park are an
authentic cobbler’s shop, antique
doctor’s office, country store, and
craftsmen who will be demon
strating their craft and offering
products for sale. No visit is
complete without a tour through
Maple Manor (the oldest home in
the area) filled with colonial and
Victorian antiques; its old hand
blown windows and - fireplace
sparkle as they have for over 200
years. One section of the Manor
also features a museum containing
artifacts unearthed from a nearby
Indian settlement.
The Maple Festival Park stage
will be alive with the sounds of
Bluegrass and country music with
clogging groups dancing their
traditional Appalachian dance.
Jazz and rock and roll are also
scheduled for the last weekend on
stage.
Outside the park, the windows of
local stores and businesses will be
filled with displays of antiques and
collectables. The Quilt Show has
hundreds of handmade quilts for
show and sale. The pageant,
“Legend of the Magic Water,”
with a cast of over 150, describes in
narration, music and humor, the
legend of the discovery of maple

history of the surrounding area.
The pageant will be presented
April 4,8, and 11, at 2 p.m. each
day.
An additional Musical Revue will
be presented April 9 and 10, at 11
a.m. and 3 p.m. by the nationally
acclaimed group, “Celebration.”
Both programs are held at the
Meyersdale Area High School
Auditorium.
Other highlights of this year’s
Festival will include a Rod-Classic
Auto Show Sunday, April 5 (noon to
5 p.m.); Horse-pulling Contest,
Sunday, April 5; Grand Feature

Parade on Saturday, April 11
(starting at 5 p.m.), and an An
tique Auto Show Sunday, April 12
(noon to 5 p.m.).
One of the biggest attractions of
the Festival has always been the
Lions Club pancake and sausage
meals, served with 100 percent
pure Pennsylvania Maple Syrup.
These are served each day of the
Festival from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
