Go Have Some Milk
Mark Twain (it's just a likeness of him in
robuck form) is a crowd pleaser as you can see
in this photo. He welcomed the crowd to to the
Farm Show last week and then invited them to
“go have some milk.”
Of course he's paid to say that by the dairy
promotion groups who rented him for the week.
Lord Rutt, alternate Lancaster Count dairy
princess, and Diane Moyer, Bucks County dairy
princess, took a break from handing out "I Love
Milk” stickers and got in close during one of
Twain's quieter moments.
Buyout Report
WASHINGTON An estimated
10,400 head of dairy cattle were
slaughtered in federally inspected
plants during the week ending Jan
2, as a result of the Dairy Ter
mination Program, the U.S
Department of Agriculture an
nounced Wednesday.
This total includes all cows,
heifers and calves identified as
dairy animals designated for
disposition in compliance with the
program requirements.
The cumulative total of cattle
slaughtered under the program
from April 1 through Jan. 2 is an
estimated 932,000 head
The purchases of meat in ad
dition to normal purchases are to
help offset the effects of the DTP
on the domestic meat market. The
cumulative purchases, reported bi
weekly as of Jan. 16, total 368.9
million pounds. For the two-week
period ending Jan 16, the
government purchased 10 2 million
pounds.
