WIILKES-BARRE - The
Northeast comer of the state will
host the 1987 Pennsylvania Holstein
Convention on Feb. 24 to 26.
The host site for this year’s
convention is the Sheraton
Crossgates, a five-star hotel, on the

Barre.
Public Square, the center of the
Wilkes-Barre business district, is
surrounded by hundreds of shops.
Since Hurricane Agnes in 1972, the
town has undergone a renaissance
with every business geared to the
convenience of the patrons. A
canopy covers the sidewalks all
around the Square with fountains,
sculptures and an amphitheatre
gracing the Square’s center.
Across from the Sheraton is the
newly renovated F.M. Kirby
Center Theater, the setting for this
year’s convention sale. For the
past seven years the sale has been
held in the host hotel’s ballroom.
This year the cows will parade
across the stage of the theater
which has been returned to the
original Art Deco style of the 19305.
Dr. Ruth and Paul Anka have
entertained at the theater which
seats 1,200 people.
