A36-Lancaster Farming, Saturday, January 10,1987 LANCASTER - The Donald Rohrer family, 1428 Lime Valley Road, won the tobacco cham- pionship of the Pennsylvania Type Division at the Lancaster County Tobacco Show Wednesday at the Farm and Home Center. Actually the winning ribbon was placed on daughter Dawn’s hand of binder tobacco with Donald taking second in the class. Donald also had the first place hand in the wrapper class. The Rohrers farm 11 acres of tobacco and had a “pretty good crop”. Rohrer has been a con sistent winner over the years in cluding the championship last year. Raymond Burkholder, Washington Boro, had the first place filler hand. In the Maryland Type tobacco, Neff Bros, of Millersville had the championship. In this division of smoking tobacco, the Neffs took first place in all three classes. They grow both types of tobacco to diversify their market. Discussion at the show indicated that a lot of damage both from the weather and some shed bum have plagued tobacco farmers this year. This cut down the number of en tries from 136 last year to only 98 this year. However judges Geof frey Ranck, president of Domestic Tobacco Company, and Stanley Goldstoff, retired vice president of General Cigar and Tobacco Company, said the quality of the tobacco at this year’s show was in par with last year. In the vo-ag division, there were 45 entries from three participating schools, Solanco, Lampeter- Strasburg, and Penn Manor. Here aretheplacings: Open Wrapper: 1. Donald M.
