week posted steady to 50 higher
trends to a good packer demand.
Wholesale beef prices proved
unfriendly to the live level as both
carcass and boxed beef prices
posted declines from the previous
week, but packers were in need of
some numbers for the near term
kill. Slaughter cows and bulls
steady with last week.
Estimated 4 day receipts this
holiday shortened week, 4,400
compared to 4 day actuals last
week of 3,784 and 4 day actuals last
year of 5,415. Slaughter steers
accounted for 43 percent of the
weeks receipts, slaughter heifers
37 percent, slaughter cows 18
percent and feeder cattle none.
