Winners Named In Make It Yourself With Wool Contest BY BETH NESBIT Indiana Co. Correspondent SOMERSET - The setting is The First Annual Keystone Shepherds Symposium, the contest is the Make It Yourself With Wool state finals. During a luncheon 16 district winners competed for the grand prize, an all-expense paid trip to the national finals. Winners of the district com petition represent four different age categories: pre-teen, junior, senior and adult. In the pre-teen division Erica Murgos, district 4, Johnstown, Cambria County, captured the first place award. Gayle Clyde of Butler County received honorable mention. Judy Ann Rhoads, district 4, Berlin, Somerset County, was the first place participant in the junior division. Barbara Babcock, Luzerne County, was the second place recipient. Pennsylvania was one of six finalists in the Ideas Unlimited Contest held during the convention in Dallas Texas, Dec. 5 to 9. Stillwagen’s region winning entry was “A Fund Raiser... Fruit the senior division honors, with Amy Patton standing in second. Amy is a Washington County resident. In the adult category Lillion Arnold, district 5, Vandergrift, Armstrong County, was the win ner, while Robin Dunn, district 5, was second. The grand prize winner was the senior division winner, Jackie Heald. Jackie, a student at Kennet High School, was sporting this fall’s hottest color, turquoise. Her full-lined tailored suit is made of 100 percent wool from G Street fabrics. Her jacket included a notched collar, pockets in the front seam, a bound buttonhole and an extra button. Her gathered skirt consisted of a side seam pocket, and Hong Kong seam finishes. Jackie constructed a long-sleeve blouse made of a liberty of London paisley print and a 100 percent silk tie to accent this suit. Judy Ann Rhoades was the first runner up and is eligible to com pete in the national competition in Nevada. Judy won with a Vogue designer suit. Her semi-fitted jacket has pleated sleeves set into extended shoulders, top Stitching and a slim line of buttons used for accent. From gathers at the waistband, the flared skirt falls softly to the new longer hem length. Judy is a 15-year-old sophomore at Berhn- Brothersvalley High School. Both girls will travel to Sparks, Nev., Jan. 21 to 24, to compete for scholarships, monetary prizes, gifts and sewing machines by Bernina. All of the winners received one and one-half yards of pure wool from Pendelton wool. A variety of other product awards were sup plied by Pellon, McCalls, But terick, Coats and Clark, Sunbeam, Stacy Fabrics, JoAnn Fabrics, Imagination Magazine and Weiss.
