    A4-Lancaster Fanning, Saturday, January 3,1987
Wednesday, Dec. 31, ISM
Market Comment: Demand for
ready-to-cook whole birds was
good and continues to keep of
ferings in a short to well-balanced
position. Movement in the parts
complex remained good on all
items, however, the call for legs
now exceeded leg quarters, and
interest in wings was a bit less
aggressive than earlier. White
meat items were available in spots
but the overall supply had
diminshed. Less than trucklot
asking prices were generally 2-4
cents higher at 48 to 55 cents and
additional product was held with
confidence. Live supplies were
mostly moderate at desirable to
heavier than desired weights.
Slaughter schedules were very
light today, with some slaughter
planned for both New Year’s Day
and Saturday in addition to most
plants operating Friday. The
undertone remained firm.

Market Comment: Prices were
unchanged to slightly higher for
this week’s arrivals; next week’s
bookings slow in developing as
buyers attempt to assess overall
availability and higher asking
prices for spent hens. Offerings
ranged adequate to short of a fair
call. Finished product sales were
fair, however, an increase in
demand was expected due to a
decline in the availability of
broiler-fryer meat The undertone
was fully steady to firm.

breasts were spotty, and while
some products sold below 75 cents,
the latest sales were at this level
and there was a continued
willingness to pay 75 cents, par
ticularly for next week. Rib
breasts were clearing easily. The
call for legs had improved, and
several sellers have now noted
more difficulty in acquiring legs
than leg quarters. Leg quarters
were still clearing, but not with the
same velocity of early weeks.
Wings were stronger and still short
of full needs, but the orders were
not as heavy or the buyers as
aggressive.
