honors at the recent annual
meeting of the Somerset County
Dairy Herd Improvement
Association.
Mosholder garnered the awards
for highest herd average for fat
and protein. On 28 Holsteins, he
maintained an average of 22,318
pounds of milk, 866 pounds of fat,
and 741 pounds of protein.
Hunsberger topped the county
for average milk production per
cow. On a three-times per day
schedule, the Davidsville farmer
averaged 22,813 pounds of milk, 731
pounds of fat, and 719 pounds of

ranked as the second highest herd
in the county for fat production.
This herd of 107 Holsteins
averaged 22,447 pounds of milk, 798
pounds of fat, and 699 pounds of
protein.
The second highest milk
production position belonged to
Farview Acres, Stoystown, with an
average of 22,477 pounds of milk,
765 pounds of fat, and 692 pounds of
protein on 56 cows.
Merle and Mark Mishler
achieved the second best protein
average with a production of 22,278
pounds of milk, 707 pounds of fat,
and 723 pounds of protein on 35

cows.
A 5-year-old Holstein owned by
George Stahl, Somerset, produced
the highest individual cow record
for milk. She completed her lac
tation with 33,477 pounds of milk,
1,111 pounds of fat, and 1,015
pounds of protein.
The award for the highest in
dividual cow record for fat
production went to a cow owned by
Glenn Moyer, Friedens. On a
three-times per day schedule, his 6
year old produced 1,236 pounds of
fat in 305 days.
Mosholder owned the highest
protein producing cow in the
county. His 8 year old sired by
Whittier-Farms Apollo Rocket
