Maryland Holstein Board Meeting Held

convention speaker for the
Maryland State Holstein Con
vention set for Feb. 20 will be Ron
Buffington.
This announcement was made at
the December Maryland Holstein
Board meeting. Buffington will
present a slide show dealing with
picture taking, merchandising
cattle and genetics. His presen
tation “We are the World” will be
part of the program for the
banquet slated for the Pleasant
Valley Fire Hall.
For the ladies, a progressive
luncheon is planned in the homes of
Kathy Hoff, Nona Schwartzbeck
and Karen Hobson.

Another topic brought before the
board was the State Show in April.
The addition of ET calves without
papers was discussed and ap
proved with final approval going to
the show committee one month
before the show. Contact Bob
Knutsen for details.
In the Best three Female
Category, the requirement of
ownership of at least one animal
was added in both the junior and
senior divisions.
A 5-year-old cow class was added
to the show for the coming year.
Possible judges were to be con
tacted before the next meeting.

Ten couples were elected, two
representing each region, to serve
for a one-year term on the Young
Cooper«tor Board. The board is
responsible for planning the 1987
Young Cooperator Program, held
in conjunction with the NMPF’s
Annual Convention. The program
gives young farmers the op
portunity to learn more about the
industry and discuss current issues
and problems with other young
farm couples from different
regions of the country.
The Coolidges have been active
in Dairylea’s Young Farmer
Program and are also board
members of the Pennsylvania
Association of Farmer
Cooperatives. Erick Coolidge also
serves as Sub-district 5B
president.
