Major Dairy Sales

Nationwide
Reports from five sales for the
week of Dec. 3 to 9 showed 482 head
averaging $1,741.37. The top prices
at the sales ranged from $30,000 to
$2,600. Here is a brief look at the
results of these sales.
AYRSHIRE
The ILLINOIS POST HARVEST
CLASSIC averaged $1,171 on 38
head. Five cows, 4 years and over,
averaged $1,670; 23 cows, 2 and 3
year olds, averaged $1,330. Six
bred heifers averaged $779 and
four calves averaged $445.
An Ardrossan consignment from
Villanova, Pa., topped the sale
with a bid of $3,600. Sired by Ar
drossan Starman Mister Ross, she
will freshen in early January to
Ardrossan Bell Commander.
The next two maternal dams
produced several records over
20,000 pounds of milk and lifetime
records over 100,000 pounds of
milk.
Selling for $2,600 and the second
best price of the sale was a 4-year
old consignment from Canada.
Sired by Oracle View, she
produced a best effort of 14,000
pounds of milk with a 4.7 test. She
owns a plus BCA for milk and fat.
Larry Sears served as the
auctioneer and Doug Murray
served as the sale manager.
BROWN SWISS
The HARVEST ROYAL SALE
held in Wisconsin averaged
$1,435.50 on 43 head which included
two day-old calves which sold with
their dams.
A bid of $2,600 on a 5-year-old
daughter of Maple Grove Per
former topped the sale. Classified
VG-87, she produced a top record

record stands at 10,660 pounds of
milk and 390 pounds of fat in 165
days. She was bred in August to
West Lawn Stretch Improver.
Her dam, sired by Ventures
Sunny Bruce, produced a best
effort of 20,020 pounds of milk and
736 pounds of fat.
The second best price of the sale,
$2,500, came on an Excellent West
Lawn Stretch Improver daughter.
She will freshen in December to
Bridgeview Elegant Jade. Her top
record stands at 15,810 pounds of
milk and 644 pounds of fat.
Her dam, sired by Blessing
Captain Hero-Twin, produced a
best effort of 15,390 pounds of milk
and 571 pounds of fat in 298 days.
Darrell Worden auctioneered the
sale. Norman Magnussen
managed the sale.
HOLSTEIN
The TUFTS MILKING HERD
AND BRED HEIFER DISPER-
SAL held in Texas averaged $l,OBO
on 280 head.
A 2-year-old bred heifer topped
the sale with a bid of $2,650. Sired
by Marshfield Elevation Tony, she
will freshen in December to Cal-
Crist Peg Nugget.
Her dam, an 83 point Astronaut
daughter, produced a top record of
17,000 pounds of milk and 752
pounds of fat. The next dam scored
VG-88 with a best effort of 19,000
pounds of milk and 854 pounds of
fat.
The second high bid of the day,
$2,600, came on a 3-year-old Carlin-
M Ivanhoe Bell daughter.
Classified GP-82, she will freshen
in March to Woodbine Ella In
credible. In her first lactation she
produced 22,000 pounds of milk and
861 pounds of fat in 348 days.
Her dam classified GP-81 with a
best effort of 27,000 pounds of milk
and 950 pounds of fat. The next
dam scored a VG-86 rating and
produced a top record of 24,000
pounds of milk and 985 pounds of
fat.
Kay’s Auctioneer Service
managed the sale.
Texas sales have recently
averaged $1,050 to $1,130, ac
cording to a spokesman for the
Texas Holstein Association.
The WESTERN WISCONSIN
FALL CLASSIC averaged $1,498.41
on 41 head.

The next dam, VG-88, produced a
best effort of 21,150 pounds of milk
and 970 pounds of fat with a 4.6 test.
A bid of $2,200, for a 6 year old,
ranked as the second high price of
the sale. Sired by Telstar, the just
fresh cow classified GP-83, she
produced a top record of 17,909
pounds of milk and 639 pounds of
fat in 359 days. Her dam by Harbor
Crest Happy Crusader owns a high
record of 15,490 pounds of milk and
554 pounds of fat.
Keith Stump auctioneered the
sale and Alvin Piper and
Associates managed the sale.
The FUTURE GENETICS SALE
held in Michigan averaged $3,522
on 80 head.
Topping the sale with a bid of
$30,000 was a 3-year-old daughter
of Arlinda Rotate. Classified VG
-86, she will freshen in January to
Arlinda Carl-Twin. She sold with a
bull contract and a 15 embryo
contract. Her incomplete first
lactation stands at 21,749 pounds of
milk and 853 pounds of fat in 344
days. She owns a estimated cow
index of plus 1,307 milk, plus 51 fat
and plus $l7O.
Her dam, sired by Elevation,
classified EX-91 2E. She produced
a top record of 21,660 pounds of
milk and 793 pounds of fat in 357
days.
The next dam classified VG-86
with a best effort of 18,010 pounds
of milk and 692 pounds of fat.
The second high price of the sale,
$4,700, came on a just fresh 3 year
old. Sired by Glendell Arlinda
Chief, she produced a 2 year old
