strong attachment to inanimate
objects. Whenever we need to
replace something, I remember all

of getting upset everytime a new
stove or refrigerator comes into
our home. But I will remember
the 20 years of service and all of
the good meals that they helped

2-year-old electric stove is already
as corroded as the one that I had
for 20 years before it.
When we got a new water
softener, the serviceman said that
I should be glad that it was made
of plastics as now it would not
rust. But, it looked so cheap even
if it was not.
So it is with the lighter weight
cars. However, their price tags do
keep getting bigger all the time.
I’ve driven a ’23 Overland, a ’3l
Chevrolet, a ’4l Chevrolet, a ’56
Chevrolet, a ’64 Oldsmobile, and a
77 Oldsmobile. That’s almost a
lifetime history in cars.
Anyway, I suppose as the years
pass by, I’ll become attached to
this new car. It seems to me that
some of these big items should last
a lifetime, but plumbing, heating
and roofing do not. So even though
I find it difficult to accept, new
things keep coming into my life.

Bring in the garden
hose over winter. Once
cold, plastic type hoses
are easily cracked or
broken when coiled.
Water should be drained
from the hose and
brought into a warm
room before coiling.
Remember also to shut
off the water going to
outside spigots and then
open the faucet to dram.
Thoroughly flus tanks
of hand and power
sprayers before winter
storage. Drain the tanks
and apply a thin coat of
oil to parts likely to rust.
