Carroll County 4-H’ers Present Demonstrations TANEYTOWN, Md. - Representatives from various 4-H clubs throughout Carroll County, Md. participated in a safety demonstration activity held recently at the Southern States Taneytown Cooperative. ■ For the past 17 years, the co-op’s store has been the site of various Christmas safety activities sponsored by the local co-op’s farm home advisory committee and Southern States Taneytown Co-op. This was the third year 4-H’ers were invited to perform their project demonstrations for the community. The first demonstration was from Beth Leidy, a member of the Rolling Clovers 4-H Club. Beth demonstrated the use of a food processor while introducing the audience to her variety of a cheddar cheese ball. She served the appetizer on crackers. Debbie Tasto, from the Deep Run Clovers 4-H Club, demon strated how to prepare eggnog. Danielle Fisher, a member of the Deer Park 4-H Club, showed how to make an Orange Smoothee. Matthew Blauvelt, a member of the Carrollton 4-H Club, gave a bicycle safety demonstration and reminded visitors to “earn the right to ride their bikes. ” Another Carrollton Club member, Christine Curry, showed the importance of using children’s auto safety seats for travel. Shawnee Blauvelt, also from the Carrollton Club, presented some safe and efficient dishwashing tips. Emily Metcalf from the Pleasant Valley 4-H Club demonstrated how to make peach delight, a nutritious milk drink. “Hooked,” a fishing demon stration by Michael Showalter of the Hillsdale Youth 4-H Club, provided an informative discussion on fishing safety. Rachel Wagner from the Pleasant Valley 4-H Club, demonstrated some simple-to make Christmas decorations. Kathy Weant of the Taneytown 4- H Club prepared an egg rice casserole. Deer Park 4-H Club member Matthew Soper shared a muffin recipe with the audience. Shelley Yingling, a member of the Deep Run Club, presented a demonstration titled “PatchworkJ’ which explained how to use extra scraps of fabric. Karen Weant from the Taneytown 4-H Club encouraged listeners to “Invite a Cow to Your Party.” She challenged everyone to include refreshments made from real dairy products when entertaining. Kristine Utz, another member of the Deep Run Clovers 4-H Club, demonstrated how to tell a story with a sequence of photos. The final demonstrator, Gregory Soper from the Deer Park Club, shared a recipe for apple crisp. Each 4-H’er who gave a demonstration received a cer tificate of appreciation. Club awards were also presented. Two clubs, Deer Park and Deep Run Clovers, had an outstanding tur nout of demonstrators.
