Give Thanks For BounHftil Blessings
Editor’s Note: Several weeks
ago we asked readers to share with
Lancaster Farming the blessings
for which they are thankful. The
thoughtful, personal responses to
our request reflect the multitude of
joys found in daily life in rural
America. We hope you will take
time from your holiday
preparations to read their lists of
blessings. They may inspire you to
consider the true purpose of
Thanksgiving giving thanks to
God.
“I find that the things that stand
out most on my list of things to be
thanksful for this Thanksgiving
are; the gift of salvation and
eternal life, the blessings God has
answered our needs with this
trying year, the love of a wonderful
husband and daughter, the times
spent with them, the beauty of
God’s creation around me, the
freedom to live in the U.S.A. and to
know that with our gifts we can
help those in need.”
Linda Rontschler

‘‘What am I thankful for? These
four things sum it up quite well
health, freedom of worship, family
and friends, and prosperity.
“Now let me explain. No we are
not rich, far from it. But we have
clothes for our backs, a warm
home and no one ever went to bed
hungry unless he or she wanted to.
Two healthy boys, and yes, they do
cry and fight, but I’m thankful they
have the energy to. Starving
babies don’t cry, they can’t. I’m
thankful for their good days, when
smiles and laughter fill our home.
“And no, my husband and I don’t
always agree on everything, but
I’m very thankful we’ve never
gone to bed angry at each other
either.
“I’m thankful for friends. They
ease life’s trials and share life’s
joys.
“I thank God for the pnviledge
to worship him as I choose, not by
force, but by choice.
“I am thankful for healthy
bodies that carry us through long
days of haying and getting up in
the middle of the night.
“I could Igo on and on for in
almost everything you can find
something to be truly thankful for.
Happy Thanksgiving! ”
“I am thankful
“For my husband. He is my dear
friend, my partner and the perfect
provider.
“For the opportunity of being
part of a farm family. The hard
work, long hours, the frustrations
and successes help to pull us
together. We are reminded daily
that there is a time to let go and
trust in God.
“The soybean crop, which
wasn’t good this year. But it was
better than the com crop. This bad
year makes us grateful for last
year and hopeful for the year to
come.
“For my little son who wants a
new bookbag. Not for himself, but
for a kindergarten friend who
doesn’t have one.
“For my daughter, who insists
on all the latest fashions and rock
music, but who isn’t too “grown
up” to sit on my lap and share her
innermost thoughts.
“The ram, the first green shoots
of winter wheat, the smell of
freshly plowed earth, the flight of a
bird, a most spectacular fall and
the knowledge that spring is just a
few months away.
“The first rays of a sunrise and
the last rays of a sunset. A friend to
share them with.
“For a dying friend who helped
me to find God’s love in the small
things that most of us take for
granted.
“My friends and family who
accept me as I am and care enough
to share the joys and sorrows that
life holds.
“My church family They are
always there for me. Their prayers
and words of encouragement help
me through each day
“And most of all I am thankful
for a most loving God. He has
given me so much. In return, I give
him my thankful heart.”
“I am thankful for;
“My husband, Charlie
“My son, Dusty.
“My family’s health.
“I’m thankful for my best friend
Cindy, who is always there for me.
“My warm home.
Mrs. David Martin
New Holland
“All the food that was given to
me to can this past summer.
“All of our families that you can
always count on to be there for you.
"The winter’s snowfall.
“My neighbor Betty she’s the
best!”
“As we approach Thanksgiving
Day, the day set aside to give
thanks, our hearts and minds are
drawn to Almighty God with
gratitude and praise. It is because
of Him that we can truly enjoy4he
blessings He showers upon us
daily.
“the priviledge of living in
America, still the land of the free,
where we can exercise our
priviledge as voters, where we still
have open church doors, the
freedom of worship.
“The blessings of home and
family, where grandparents are
cherished, parents respected and
children encouraged and praised
to walk a worthy life and to use
every opportunity to nuture their
minds with good and wholesome
thoughts.
“On Thanksgiving Day, the table
laden with the fruits of our labors
and loved ones gather round, truly
is a blessing.
“To be surrounded with good
neighbors is a priviledge we might
take for granted. As we pass on the
highways and byways of life, a
wave or a handshake is a joy, just
to know in times of stress or need,
they are supportive by word or
deed.
' ‘And on that day as the fireplace
crackles with the fire burning the
wood and logs hewn and chopped
by the men in the family, and the
chestnuts popping, all creating the
warm atmosphere of love and
Thanksgiving.
“As heads bow for the blessing
upon our food, we can surely say as
the Psalmist said, “0 give thanks
unto the Lord, for He is good! ’’
