HONESDALE - The 1986 Wayne
County 4-H Achievement Night
was held Thursday, Oct. 23 at the
Central Methodist Church Hall,
Honesdale. Over 100 4-H members,
leaders, parents and friends at
tended to recognize outstanding
achievements of 4-H members and
clubs during the 4-H year.
County Blue Form award win
ners were; Achievement- Anna
Rutledge, Carrie Bryant, Wesley
Buck, and Carrie Burlein.
Agriculture- Lynette Wentzell and
Joe Wentzell, Tim Rutledge, and
Mike Mang.
Citizenship- Carly Soden and
Zachary Bryant.
Clothing- Lisa Bassak. Conservation-
Jason Soden. Consumer Education-
Home Economics- Joy Rutledge.
Entomology- Grant Stiles Ir. Food
Nutrition- Amy Lynn Peters.
Forestry- Dean Jamieson and Blain

Featured speaker at the Wayne
County 4-H Achievement Night
was Julie Wojcik, a 4-H member
from the South Canaan Saddle
Club and the Western Wayne 4-H
Club. Julie spent six weeks this
past summer in Denmark as an
International Farm Youth Ex
change participant. She shared her
many experiences in Denmark
with the group and showed a slide
set depicting life, agriculture,
buildings, landscapes and people
in Denmark as well as visits to
Norway and Sweden.
Other awards presented at 4-H
Achievement Night included
plaque awards to members of the
1986 Wayne County 4-H Livestock
and 4-H Dairy Judging Teams.

Wayne County Honors Outstanding 4-H Members
Livestock judging awards went to;
Mike Mang, Wayne Mang, Michele
Crimi, and Jenny Davis.
Dairy judging awards went to:
‘ Adam Kennedy, Paul Kennedy Jr.,
Andy Weist Jr., Carolyn Weist,
Brian Weist, Holly Weist, Tim
Rutledge, Anna Rutledge, and Joe
Wentzell.
The Outstanding 4-H Club
Awards were also presented.
Recipients in the different club
categories were: 4-H Home
Economics, Browndale 4-H Club;
4-H Horse Club, Silver Spurs 4-H
Horse Club; 4-H Community Club,
Ledgedale 4-H Community Club;
and 4-H Agriculture, Calkins 4-H
Ag Club.
The highlight of the evening was
the presentation of the awards for
LANCASTER - Over 400
Lancaster County Farm Women
gathered at the Lancaster Farm
and Home Center last Saturday for
their annual convention.
A highlight of the meeting was
the presentation of money raised
for the American Red Cross
Disaster Services Unit as the
Farm Women’s county project.
Owen Johnson, director of the
Unit, accepted a check for $3,850,
the county’s largest project ever.
Members elected Evelyn Hess as
secretary and Vera Herr,
treasurer. Other county officers
are: president, Mary Shellen
berger; Florence Vaitl, first vice
president; and Judy Greenleaf,
second vice president. State Farm
Women president Naomi Bupp
installed the new county officers
and officers of each society.
Featured speaker Rev. Glenn
Sell of the East Petersburg
Mennonite Church encouraged the
women to make laughter and joy
an important part of their lives.
Edie Overly and Rebecca
Deibler provided special music.

H Boy and 4-H Girl. The 1986
recipients are: Julie Wojcik, South
Canaan Saddle Club and Western
Wayne 4-H Club, and Andy Weist
Jr., Laurella 4-H Club.
Julie Wojcik is a seven year 4-H
member who has completed 4-H
projects in outdoor and indoor
flowers, wildlife, crafts, forestry,
beef, horses, maple syrup,
veterinary science and en
tomology. She has been a member
of the 4-H livestock and dairy
judging teams, has been an active
exhibitor,at the Wayne County and
Greene- Dreher- Sterling Fair. She
has participated in 4-H Capital
Days, 4-H Local Government Day
and is a member of the Wayne
County 4-H County Council where

projects in dairy, market beef
steers, tractor safety and capons.
He has been a member of the dairy
judging team for three years, has
participated in 4-H Local Gover
nment Day, has been an active
exhibitor at the Wayne County and
Greene- Dreher- Sterling Fairs and
is an active member of the Wayne
County 4-H County Council.
Two special 4-H dairy project
awards were also presented. These
awards, one for a boy and one for a
girl, were given to recognize
outstanding achievements by first
year 4-H dairy project members.
