ALEXANDRIA, Va. - More
than 20,000 young people who
believe there is a future in
agriculture will meet in Kansas
City, Mo., Nov. 13 to 15 at the
National Future Farmers of
America Convention.
These vocational agriculture
students will challenge themselves
and recognize the FFA’s highest
young achievers in many areas of
agriculture at the world’s largest
annual youth convention.
This 59th annual national con
vention will feature an address
from U.S. Secretary of Agriculture
Richard Lyng, motivational
speaker Bob Moawad, and Bruce
Jenner, Olympic decathlon
champion.
Other highlights for FFA
members coming from every state
include the naming of the top FFA
members and programs in 29
proficiency award areas, in
prepared and extemporaneous
speaking and in 10 national FFA
contests.
Friday afternoon the American
Fanner degree the highest
degree earned by FFA members
will be awarded to 735 recipients
representing the top 3 percent of
FFA membership.

the top two FFA members with
production and agribusiness
programs will be honored.
“The Convention is an exciting
culmination of the year’s
achievements by FFA members
and chapters from every state,
Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico,
and the Virgin Islands,” said Rick
Malir, national FFA president
from Wilson, Kan. “These three
days are a highlight of the
organization as we recognize
ourselves nationally as students in
the agricultural industry.”
Six student national FFA of
ficers elected at the 1985 con
vention will conduct the sessions
and activities of the week.
The convention will use the
national FFA theme,
“FFA...Leaders for the New
Fields of Agriculture” to stress the
many areas of science, business
and communications taught and
practiced through FFA and

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - The
New Jersey FFA will be
represented at the 59th National
FFA Convention Nov. 13 to 15th in
Kansas City, Mo., with delegates,
judging contest participants, a
band member, and enthusiastic
members.
This year’s delegates are Dennis
Symons, N.J. FFA state president,
of Allentown, and Maryann Vogt,
N.J. FFA state secretary, of
Medford. They will be involved in
