$36,000 Bid Tops Fran-Lou First Edition Sale LANCASTER - Fran-Lou Morning Rose-ET was in full bloom on Tuesday and attracted the top price of the Fran-Lou First Edition Sale. The Roybrook Tempo daughter sold for $36,000 to John Baker of Canada. Baker edged out con tending bidder Hartmann Farms of Dundee, 111., for the right to select between Rose and Fran-Lou Melia-ET; both animals are out of the Fran-Lou Meadow cow. Baker’s choice is a sixth generation Excellent. Her in progress 4-year-old record stands at 22,694 pounds of milk and 829 pounds of fat in 250 days. Four maternal sisters produced records over 21,000 pounds of milk; six maternal sisters classified Fran-Lou Morning Rose-ET topped the Fran-Lou First Edition Sale with a bid of $36,000 from John Baker of Canada. The next six dams classified Excellent and produced records over 20,000 pounds of milk. The second dam, Diamond-S Eve Corry, produced a top record of 38,590 pounds of milk and 1,350 pounds of fat. Eight animals sold over the $5,000 level. The sale averaged $2,768 on 73 head. This sale marked the first sale in several years for Fran-Lou Holsteins, according to owner Ray Edwards, and the first sale in the Lancaster area. Edwards noted that originally he was hoping the sale could be held at the Guernsey Sale Barn. However, that facility closed due to its impending sale. He admitted apprehension when he learned the sale would be held at the former Black and White Sale Bam since the bam is set up for commercial cow sales. “The facility adapted well and I can’t speak more highly of the efforts put forth by Dennis and Mel Kolb.
