Farm Show Contenders Named At FFA Lamb Roundup BY JACK RUBLE Y NEW HOLLAND - Selection of Lancaster County’s FFA Farm Show entries highlighted the county FFA market lamb roundup on Tuesday night at New Holland Sales Stables. The show was divided into two classes: one class contained those lambs to be selected for Farm Show com petition and a second class would be offered for sale Thursday af ternoon. This year the show featured a separate judge for each show, and by show’s end the pair had selected four half-brother lambs from B&B livestock of Danville, Ohio, for champion and reserve honors in both shows. Judging the Farm Show class was Greg Snyder, a Lebanon County Hampshire and Dorset breeder, who selected a Suffolk- .iei .Qi (right) si., - .nargai. sale lamb at the Lancaster County FFA lamb roundup on Tuesday. Laura Folker(left) had reserve. Hamp crossbred owned by Margaret Herr, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Herr, Narvon, for his champion. A sophomore at Penn State University, Herr was unable to attend the event. Her lamb was shown by Heidi Quambeck. Last year’s judge was Snyder’s sister, Gail Post, who selected lambs shown by Margaret Herr and Kristin Chupp for grand and reserve honors in 1965. Her brother did likewise this year, once again naming Christin Chupp’s lamb reserve champion. The daughter of Barbara and Larry Weaver of New Holland, Christin’s lamb was also a Suffolk-Hamp from B&B. The other six FFA entries for Farm Show will be shown by Michelle Arment, East Earl; Kevin Bollinger, Litltz; Laura Folker, New Holland; Becky AIR TIGHT • IMPROVED CLIMATE CONTROL • REDUCED FUEL COSTS LONGER LASTING • SHRINK RESISTANT • ULTRA VIOLET RESISTANT WEAR & ABRASION RESIST ANT- MILDEW & ROT RESIST ANT* EASY TO MAINTAIN Weber, Narvon; Tammy Martin, New Holland; and Jeff Gehman, East Earl. If the ultimate goal of livestock shows is to produce a better product for the consumer, then it seems that an experienced meat packer would be a logical choice for a show judge. Although you don’t find a lot of packers in the showring these days, the FFA sale lamb class was an exception. Judging the show was Dane Fine of Dave Fine Meat Packing, Pitt sburgh. Fine slapped another Hen consignment for champion sale lamb honors, noting that the 130- pound Suffolk-Hamp would yield ‘ ‘the best carcass for the packer. ’ ’ At reserve was Laura Folker of New Holland, better known for her hog show victories thoughout the county this season. The daughter of Tony and Edith Folker, 14-year-old Laura bought her lamb from B&B at the “Top of the Gass Sale” in Manheim this spring. This lamb also placed well at tiie Ephrata and Denver Fairs this year. Other placings in the sale lamb class were as follows: 3.Jeff Martin, East Earl; 4.Gary Gills, Ephrata; s.Janetta Shirk, Narvon; B.Gretchen Frederick, Blue Ball; 7.Mike King, Narvon; S.Elaine Zeiset, Narvon; 9-Gary Grills, Ephrata; 10. Jeff Martin. Show judge Dane Fine put his money where his mouth was on Thursday, offering the top bid for Margaret Herr’s champion lamb at die FFA sale held at New Holland Sales Stables on Thur sday.
