Farm Toy Show Scheduled For Lancaster Over 1000 farm toy collectors will convene at the Lancaster Mennonite School on Saturday, October 18th. Persons will attend from all along the east coast of U.S. and Canada and as far west as lowa. This is the fourth year for this show and it has grown to become the largest event of it’s type in Eastern United States. Featured will be over 130 tables set-up with toy farm tractors and equipment of all brands; some will be for display only while other tables will offer toys, repair parts, collector guides, and magazines for sale. The show opens at 8:30 am and remains active till about 2:30 pm. An admission is charged. Seminars on “Restoring Farm Toys" by Dr. Douglas Karke of Geneseo, New York will begin at 2:30 pm. Last year’s show was attended by over 1000 persons from 15 states and Canada. The hobby has it’s own monthly magazines, the largest having a circulation of over 10,000. Approximately 2000 collectors live in the eastern coastline states. Some of the scarce farm toys of the 40’s and 50’s have a value to a toy collector of several hundred dollars. Usually tractors are worth more than equipment items. A toy Farmall model 400 or 450 in nice condition has a value to a collector of over $lOO. A John Deere model 620 or 630 has about the same value as do dozens of others. Among the displays will be valuable collections featuring John Deere, International Harvester, Sheppard Diesel, Allis-Chalmers, Ford, New Holland, pedal tractors (including the rare square block John Deere “A” valued at over $1000), trucks, small farm scene layouts using l/64th scale toys, and others. He is a regular writer for the hobby’s magazines and is the manager of local farm toy auctions. His own collection of about 100 older “New Holland and Ford toys will be on display for the first time.
