Manheim Fair Holds Record-Setting Sale
MANHEIM Manheim capped
its five-day fair with a sale that
made the record books last Friday,
Oct. 10. Records were set in the
overall sale averages for hogs,
lambs and steers, and the price for
the grand champion steer was the
highest ever offered here.
With only five steers selling,
competition among the numerous
buyers was keen. The bidding for
Rhonda Gibble’s 1,153-pound grand
champion finally stopped when the

of Mount Joy edged past Penway
Construction with a top bid of $4.05

Penway came out on top in the
bidding for Leon Heisey’s reserve
champion, paying $1 90 a pound for
a total of $1,991.20.
The show’s five steers averaged
$2.39 a pound. Otner buyers in
cluded J.H. Brubaker, Inc. and
Rohrer Construction.
The sale’s 25 market lambs
averaged a record $1.50 a pound.
Top bidder was Willie the Butcher,
who paid $3.40 a pound for Ellen
Lewis’ 126-pound grand champion
sale lamb.

MANURE PUMPS
At $2.75 a pound, Evergreen
Tractor was high bidder for Jason
Stoltzfus’ reserve champion.
The sale’s 2,951 pounds of lamb
sold for $4,429. Willie the Butcher
was the sale’s most enthusiastic
buyer, going home with nine
lambs.
Buyers seemed just as eager to
buy pork. Well-known junior
livestock show supporter Hatfield
Packing paid the hog sale’s highest
price, offering $3.80 a pound for
Karen Becker’s 238-pound grand
champion.
Holhnger’s Farm and Home
Supply of Lititz was not far behind,
offering $3 a pound for Chad
Folker’s 236-pound reserve
champion.
Including champions, the hog
sale averaged $1.34 per pound,
with only two of the sale’s 43 hogs
dipping below the dollar mark.
Volume buyers at the hog sale
included Hatfield with 14 hogs,
Willie the Butcher, White Oak
Mills, Penway Construction,
Hollmger’s Farm and Home
Supply and Lancaster Farm
