Myiin Sisters An Manheim Leadline Winners

MANHEIM The woman had
just picked up her dessert at the
Manheim Fair’s funnel cake stand
when she noticed the flock of
immaculately fitted sheep and
their equally stunning owners
parading around the fair’s
baseball diamond during the
leadline competition. “Did you
realize sheep were so beautiful?”
she exclaimed to her husband.
Of all the fair season’s livestock
events, the leadline competition is
the hands-down winner when it
comes to head-turning pageantry.
Unlike the type judging shows,
both the animals’ and their
owners’ appearance count in
leadline. Participants at Manheim
must wear outfits composed of at

recent Reading Fair. Leading was
the list of senior division winners
was Rick Hicks, who placed first in
the livestock judging contest. Rick
also led the chapter’s senior team
to a first place award.
Other Twin Valley students
placing in the senior livestock
contest were Tom Morgan, fourth,
Dwight Stoltzfus, seventh, Rich
Slonaker, ninth, and Robert Bell,
tenth. The junior division contest
was won by Hamburg, with Twin

This year’s event was a family
affair, with Michelle Mylin and her
sister Andrea winning the senior
and junior divisions, respectively.
Michelle’s yearling Hampshire
ewe named Elizabeth was forced
to do double duty in Tuesday
night’s show, since 10-year-old
Andrea’s four-legged partner was
under the weather. A showring
veteran in her own right, Elizabeth
had taken top honors in the
Elizabethtown Fair’s sheep show
before going on' to be named
supreme champion over all breeds
of livestock.

Valley placing second. Bunny
Hicks placed second, Mike
Stoltzfus, fourth, Troy Gieringer,
sixth, and Eric Marshall, tenth.
In dairy judging competition
Scott Ritchie placed third in the
junior division contest, Eric
Marshall, fourth, and Troy
Geringer, seventh. The junior
division team placed second, as did
the senior division team.
In senior division dairy judging
Duane Stoltzfus placed second,
Tom Morgan, fourth, Dwight

This has been quite a year for 17-
year-old Michelle, as well. The
night before her leadline victory
she was named the Queen of the
Manheim Fair, and last Saturday
she topped the leadline contest at
Keystone International Livestock
Exposition in Harrisburg.
