1986 is “The Year of the Forest”
in Pennsylvania, so the tour will
highlight activities that tie in with
that theme. The first stop will be in
Reading at the Georgia Pacific
Paper Plant on Riverfront drive
for a short tour of the facility. The
second stop will be at the largest
white oak tree in Pennsylvania,
located on the grounds of the
Wemersville State Hospital.
A stop will be made at the
Keeney-Ziegler Honey Storage
Facility just East of Bethel and
then a lunch stop at Kauffman’s
Bar-B-Q Chicken Ranch. The af
ternoon will feature a short tour of
the new sawmill run by J.O.
Younker Son’s Incorporated and a
tour of the Harris Pine Mills fur
niture plant at Hamburg. The tour

competition. Others entered in the
contest were the University of
Connecticut, Delaware Valley,
West Virginia, University of
Georgia, University of Illinois,
Pennsylvania State University and
Auburn.
In the Junior Livestock Judging
Contest, team honors went to In
diana, while Pennsylvania claimed
the second-place honors. Virginia,
Ohio and Maryland followed in that

Virginia’s Clay Brumback was
the winner of high individual
honors and Melissa Trostle of RD
2, Red Lion, York Coullty, was
second.
The Virginia team proved their
supremacy in the sheep judging,
but the Indiana team held sway in
the swine and beef competitions.
Trostle was the high individual in
the swine judging.
The junior teams were composed
of 4-H Club and FFA members in
their respective states.
