To ‘Buy Back’ Loans
Beekeepers in Berks County who
obtain 1986 crop honey loans stored
in approved metal containers in
the ASCS price support program
will be able to repay their loans at
a level lower than the original loan
rate.
Donald E. Lutz, Chairman of the
Berks County ASC Committee says
the lower honey loan repayment
rates will be set to induce
beekeepers to buy back their loans,
and that the lower repayment
levels will help minimize loan
forfeitures.
Based primarily on the market
price of honey, the buy-back loan
level will be announced weekly for
each color and class of honey.
When beekeepers repay their loans
at the announced buy-back level,
Lutz says the interest on the loan
will be waived.
Beekeepers who buy back their
honey under the program may not
repledge the same honey as
collateral for another loan.
