Angus Bull, Charolais

YORK - Supreme champions of
York Fair’s open class beef
breeding were a clear-cut black
and white decision, with the honors
split between the Angus and
Charolais divisions.
Byrnley Farms of Plains,
Virginia, capped a successful show
day when their Angus entry topped
the breed class and then bested all
other contenders to take the
Supreme Bull honors.
Sired by Har Bang 1774, the
April, 1985-born bull is owned by
Byrnley in partnership with
William Creager, also of Virginia,
and Huntington Farms, of
Alexander, Pennsylvania. Just two
weeks ago, the yearling was also
named Angus bull champion at the
Maryland State Fair at Timonium.
A Texas-bred Chianina heifer
snagged the supreme champion
female awards for Spring Grove 4-
H’er Paul Miller.
“C J Ms. Elite 5942” was bred by
C.J. Ranch of Leona, Texas. Her
sire is RER Elite and she’s from
the dam Riverwood Snowflake.
The Fair’s supreme award was
just the latest in a string of honors
for Miller and the March, 1985,
yearling he selected and pur
chased last October. She was
reserve grand at the February San
Antonio Livestock Show, and at the
West Virginia State Fair in August.
Miller hopes to continue his win
nings with Ms. Elite next week in
Tennessee.
Supreme champion bull at the York Fair was this Angus
entry owned by Byrnley Farms and William Creager of
Virginia, and Huntingdon Farms, Alexandria, Pa.
Bankert Tops 4-H Market
YORK Greg Bankert of
Hanover took the top honors in the
York Fair 4-H Market Swine show
on Wednesday. He placed with a
Berkshire-Duroc cross he pur
chased from his father’s Bankert’s
Supreme Pig Sale.
This i the second year a
Berkshire-Duroc cross has topped
the show.
Bankert, a six-year member of
the York County 4-H Swine Club,
will sell his 244-pound champion at

A high school junior who plans a
civil engineering career, Miller
will integrate the tall, stylish
heifer’s bloodlines into the family’s
Miller Charolais Company herd of
35 registered cows. He is the son of
Paul Sr., and Pat Miller, and has
been showing in 4-H competition
for four years.
In the Simmental show, C & J
Valley Farm, Spring Grove,
exhibited the champion female, a
junior heifer. Reserve female
honors Went to Triple C Farm,
Shoemakersville, with a March
junior yearling. Triple C also took
senior and champion bull honors
for their summer senior yearling.
Reserve champion Simmental bull
was the winning bull calf exhibited
by C and J Valley Farm.
Female grand champion honors
in the Hereford breed went to the
junior champion, an April junior
yearling exhibited by Green Briar
Farm, Keedysville, Maryland.
Sonja Shearer, Abbottstown, took
the reserve female champion with
her junior calf. Taking the bull
grand and reserve awards was
Salunga Acres, Mt. Joy, with their
winning senior and junior bull
entries.
Charolais female champion
honors went to Paul Miller, who
copped the supreme award, and
Amy Sherman, Abbottstown, was
named reserve champion female
Charolais with her heifer calf
champion. Kent Fisher exhibited
the grand champion bull and John
Myers took the reserve honors.

Reserve champion banner went
to Gus Parlett, Airville. Ken
Wmebark, Lebanon County ex
tension agent judged the contest.
In the breeding hog show,
Ronald Wilson of New Freedom
won the trophy for the best 4-
H/FFA Yorkshire hog.
Wilson, a final-year member of
the Kennard Dale FFA, has aken
the award six times. He will now

Female honors in the Chianina
division were split between Lake
View Farm, East Berlin, taking
the junior and grand champion
female with a heifer calf, and
Jamie Kohr’s summer heifer in the
reserve grand spot. Grand
champion Chianina bull was the
junior champion exhibited by
Moving M Farm, Warriors Mark,
over the bull calf entry of Lake
View finishing as reserve cham
pion.

Charolais heifer owned by Paul Miller. CJ Ms. Elite 5942

showmanship.
