May, the stylish calf had claimed a
reserve championship for the
youngster, daughter of Dr. and
Mrs. Joseph Calderazzo, York, R 9.
Reserve champion in the Angus
breed show went to Tom Brass,
and Cathy Shive claimed the best
bred-and-owned honors. Other
class winners were Krista Rankin,
junior calf; Sandra Eisenhour, 1
summer yearling; Karena Rankin,
junior yearling; Susan Eisenhour,
late junior yearling; and pairs
awards to Sandra Eisenhour and
Cathy Shive.
His March, 1985 late junior
yearling put Wayne Stough, Jr.,
into the grand champion spot in
Simmental competition. Sired by
Generation Three, “Sissy” was
purchased by Stough at the Penn
sylvania Simmental State Sale,
and earned similar honors in the
same arena at the May Preview
Show. Sixteen-year-old Stough is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne
Stough, Spring Grove Rl, and an
eight-year 4-H showring veteran.
Taking the Simmental reserve
honors to his brother’s top win was
Jay Stough with the second-place
late junior yearling. In the best
bred-and-owned class, Jenni
Druck claimed the first place win,
with her April-born calf.
Other class winners in the
Simmental division were Jenni
Druck, junior calf; Jimmy
Townsend, senior calf; Tim
Ferrence, summer yearling;
Nancy Townsend, late junior
yearling; Joe Druck, cow-calf; and
Nancy Townsend, pairs.
“Vicki,” a homebred summer
yearling, took Hereford grand
champion honors and best bred
and-owned for Sonja Shearer of
Abbottstown, Rl. The 13-year-old
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Terry
Shearer also collected the reserve
champion breed honors with her
junior calf entry. Ed Livingston
won the late junior yearling class.
Second-year 4-H'er Jennifer Calderazzo took champion
title in 4-H Angus breed show, as well as reserve champion
honors in showmanship.

York Fair Names 4-H Steer, Breeding Beef Champs
Spring Grove 4-H’er Paul Miller
earned the Charolais champion
honors with an outstanding heifer
which also swept the open class
shows. Paul is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Paul Miller, Sr., Spring
Grove R 5.
In the Other Breeds division,
Kenley Jo Myers, took the
champion and best bred-and
owned rosettes with her Limousin
calf, “Silver.” Kenley, 14, is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack
Myers, Dallastown Rl.
4-H Fitting
' and Showmanship
Paul Miller, Jr., swept all 4-H
fitting and showmanship com
petitions, exhibiting a perfectly
white Charolais heifer scrubbed to
sparkle like new-fallen snow.
Though only exhibiting for four
years, the Spring Grove 4-H’er is
as adept with the show stick as he
is with brush, hide soap and hose.
His expertise won the tall, blonde
Spring Grove High School junior
championships in a pair of fitting
runoffs and the showmanship
class.
Miller added to a growing
collection of awards the York Fair
Special Fitting trophy sponsored
by long-time 4-H leader and beef
breeder Bill Dietz. Reserve winner
of Special Fitting and a Dietz
sponsored trophy was Sandra
Eisenhour, WeUsville, who topped
the age 9-14 class. Collecting the
Rookie trophy, sponsored by
Hidden Lane Farms, was Dwight
Hedrick of Delta.
In the York Fair-sponsored 4-H
Beef Fitting, Miller and Eisenhour
again collected the champion and
reserve awards. Brothers Justin
and Dwight Hedrick, Delta, topped
the 3-10, and 11-12 agp group
classes.
Showmanship competition
wrapped up with Paul Miller again
on top, over reserve champion
Jennifer Calderazzo. Top three
animals Pennsylvania is noted for.
Pedigrees for the 30 head to be sold
include three Excellent dams and
four Excellent granddams. Twelve
of the animals to be sold are out of
Very Good dams.
Production records on the dams
range from 700 pounds of fat to
over 1,000 pounds of fat. These
dams also have records between
20,000 and 25,000 pounds of milk.
Three granddams produced
records over 1,000 pounds of fat.
Featured sires include; E E

West Lawn Stretch Improver,
Bridge View Jubilation, Johann
Johnny D and Ka Wa Balison.
The sale includes 11 springing
heifers or just-fresh cow, eight
yearlings, seven project calves
and four mature cows.
