Simmentd Names Trait Leaders
BOZEMAN, Mont. - The
American Simmental Association
has announced that 244 purebred
Simmental bulls have been
designated as Genetic Trait
Leaders for 1987. In all, 99 bulls
qualified as trait leaders in more
than one category.
“These trait leaders are selected
on the basis of their performance
in growth and maternal traits,”
said ASA Executive Vice President
Earl B. Peterson.
Trait leaders are recognized in
seven traits: calving ease of first
calf; birth weight; weaning
weight; yearling weight; maternal
calving ease; maternal weaning
weight; and maternal milking
ability.
“Evaluation of 812,942 progeny
was performed,” Peterson said.
“Genetic Trait Leaders represent
the outstanding sires from among
those that were analyzed in
compilation of the 1987 Sire
Selector.”

GBO9 was listed in four traits.
