Correspondent MEYERSDALE A quality line-up of cattle awaited the bid ders on a chilly Aug. 27 for the annual Somerset Fall Classic. Oren Bender, who read pedigrees, commented several times about the style and milkiness of the animals that Clark Yoder auc tioned off. Dan Carr, sale chairman, was pleased with how the sale went and the average which was $1,642 on 33 lots. Hillmont Bell Sue-ET topped the sale at $3,800. The 2-year-old daughter of the Carlin-M Ivanhoe Bell was consigned by Jay and Kirk Hillegass of Berlin. Sue sold recently fresh to Mel-Est Valiant Irose Melvin. Her dam, Laureate Marvex Dena, scored Excellent and produced a top record of 25,160 pounds of milk and 879 pounds of fat with a cow index of plus 744. Wilmer Hostettler of Oxford was the final bidder on Sue. Her week old heifer calf was bought by Alfred Crothers for $l,OOO. Young Woods Farm, Dilltown, purchased four animals at the sale, including the second and fifth top selhng consignments. Marteeny Rotate Speckle con signed by Mark E. Marteeny, Somerset, was the second-high animal at $2,100. An Arlinda Rotate daughter, she is bred and due Oct. 1 to Whittier Farms Ned Boy. Her dam, Marteeny Valiant Sugar-Twin produced 22,432 pounds of milk and 928 pounds of fat as a 2-year-old cow. Rodney and Claire Ott, Hollsopple, consigned the third high animal, Double-Ott Chief Very Dynamic. James Adams, Mt. Pleasant, bought this 2-year-old daughter of Kingway Elevation Very for $2,000. She is bred and due Oct. 30 to Woodbine Ellas In credible-ET. Her dam, Johnsholm Chief Bootmaker Dawn, is scored VG-85 and has a top record of 21,851 pounds of milk and 1,084 pounds of fat at a 7 year old. The fourth-high selling animal also sold for $2,000 to Keith Clark of Sky Wind Farm, Clear Spring, Md. Trenton-Place Elev Wileeda, a 2- year-old daughter of Round Oak Rag Apple Elevation, consigned by Cumberland Go. Eligible For Assistance CARLISLE - The Secretary of Agriculture has declared York County eligible for Emergency Loan assistance due to the severe drought which began Jan. 1. Since Cumberland County is contiguous to York County, Cumberland County is also eligible for EM assistance, according to the Farmers Home Ad unistration. Fanners in Cumberland County who are interested in receiving an Emergency Loan for this drought must submit their applications up to the close of business on April 6, 1987 for physical and production losses. Actual loss loans will be available at 5.0 percent interest for the first $lOO,OOO and 8.0 percent interest for any amount over $lOO,OOO for eligible farmers who are unable to get the needed credit elsewhere. The loan ceiling amount will be 80 pi i cent of the actual production loss md 100 percent of the actual physical loss, or $500,000, whichever is the lesser amount. Loan terms will normally be f heduled for up to 7 years, as needed. Applications may be filed at the Farmers Home Administration office at 7044 Carlisle Pike, Carlisle, PA 17013.
