County 4-H and FFA members
recently exhibited their dairy
project cattle and goats at the
Centre County Grange Fair.
In the junior show, Ayrshire
division, Tammy McTavish, a
State College FFA member, won
the Grand Champion ribbon with
Penn State Command 123. This
animal is an offspring of sire
Granbynne Royal Command and
Penn State Premier 183. Reserve
honors for this breed went to Chad

County Youths Exhibit Dairy Projects

The rosette for grand champion
Brown Swiss was won by High
Pines Jubilation Eve, exhibited by
Eric Stine, a 4-H member from
Pennsylvania Furnace. His senior
yearling was sired by Bridge View
Jubilation and out of High Pines
Performer Emma. Reserve
champion Brown Swiss was shown
by Tammy McTavish.
Grand champion Guernsey,
Yaples Jetstream Lola was
exhibited by Nathan Knepp.
Nathan, a 9-year-old 4-H member
attends Port Matilda Elementary
School. His junior calf was sired by
Valley Oaks Admiral Jetstream.
The dam was Yaples Lewella.
Joyce Harpster, Boalsburg,
showed a mother and daughter
Jersey champion team. Her END-
Ru A.S.M. Glorys Theda, a 6 year
old, won grand champion Jersey.
The animal sired by Advancing
Sleeping Milestone, is the daughter
of Theda Ranger Glory. The
daughter, 2-year-old EDN-RU
Samaons Thedas Thelma, won the
reserve champion rosette. Harp
ster is both a 4-H and FFA
member.
In the Holstein competition, Jim
Houser of Spring Mills won the
grand champion award with his 2-
year-old Penn-Dell Chairman
Rhonda. The animal is the
daughter of Cal-Clark Board
Chairman and Penn-Dell
Elevation Rose-Twin. Houser is a
member of the Penns Valley FFA
Chapter. Reserve Champion
honors went to Martha Hartle of
Bellefonte.
Judges for the Junior Dairy
Cattle Show were: type, Dale
Olver, Lancaster; fitting, Lauri
Sollenberger, Everett; and
showmanship, John Bierket, East
Freedom.
In the goat show, Jon Merkle
claimed best doe of show honors.
Dairy goat show judges were:
type, Donna Penick, Blairsville
and fitting, Patsy Novak, Blair
sville.
