Repeat Winners Top Somerset Co. Dairy Show

MEYERSDALE - Karen
Marteeny, Somerset, walked off
with county honors for the second
time in as many months. In July
her cow Marteeny Tony Carry took
the grand champion award at the
county Black and White Show. On
Aug. 20, the 2-year-old cow
repeated her performance copping
top honors at the Somerset County
Fair Dairy Show in the 4-H and
open classes.
The Marteeny cow milked 19,500
pounds in her first lactation and is
a daughter of Marshfield Elevation
Tony out of Berkline Betty Cheif
Cola. Her dam is classified VG-85
with a milking record of over 22,000
pounds milk and 800 pounds fat.
In second honors, Paul Carr,
Somerset, also staged a repeat
performance with his Carrdale
Pete Little-Jo. The 5-year-old cow,
which took reserve grand cham
pion titles at both the Black and
White Show and this year’s fair, is
milking over 21,000 pounds milk
per lactation on 4.4 test with over
900 pounds fat. She has been
classified EX-91 with an excellent
mammary. The cow was sired by
Straight-Pine Elevation Pete. Her
dam was Carrdale Triple Threat
Joy. Carr also won the grand
Reserve grand champion of the FFA show went to Michael
Walker’s 3-year-old cow.

champion showman award for the
day’s events.
Carr’s Carrdale-P Triple Threat
Marcy, another 5-year-old cow,
won grand champion honors in the
FFA show. The cow was sired by
Hanover-HiU triple Threat-Red.
Michael Walker, Meyersdale, took
the FFA reserve grand champion
trophy with his Walkland Electra
Anna, a 3-year-old cow sired by
Thonyma Electra.
In the color breeds Dean Snyder,
Berlin, had the grand champion 4-
H Guernsey and Gerald Murray,
Salisbury, exhibited both the grand
champion and reserve grand
champion Guernsey cows in the
FFA show.
Jill Barclay, Somerset, showed
the grand champion and reserve
grand champion Jersey in the 4-H
show and Jim Kaufman, Boswell,
took the same honors in the FFA
show. Brian Walker, Meyersdale,
had the grand champion Ayrshire
and Darren Walker, Somerset,
exhibited the reserve grand
champion. Ayrshires were judged
solely in FFA.
Among the Brown Swiss
exhibited, Thomas Bell, Somerset,
took grand champion of the 4-H
show. Robert Fritz Jr., Garrett,
showed the grand champion in the
FFA show, and Philip Martz Jr.,
Berlin, had the reserve grand
champion.
Judges for the dairy show were
Paul King of Delta, type, and Carol
Schurman, Clymer, fitting and
showmanship. Somerset County
Dairy Princess Missy Walker was
on hand to present ribbons and
trophies to the winners.
