Scranton, 39, is the only Penn
sylvania public official to be
honored by the National Wildlife
Federation for his efforts on behalf
of wildlife conservation and clean
up of the Chesapeake Bay. Under
this unique effort, Pennsylvania
has joined with surrounding states
to institute voluntary programs
which help to better manage
watershed areas in an effort to
reduce potentially harmful
drainage, particularly on
agricultural lands. These ac
tivities, in addition to improving
water quality, also help farmers to
preserve soil and nutrients.
