FFA’ers Show 6 Breeds In Western

PROSPECT Western Penn
sylvania’s Future Farmers of
America assembled at the Butler
Fairgrounds on July 28 to compete
{or blue ribbons in the Western
Regional Dairy Show. All six
breeds were represented, with
Jersey’s dominating the afternoon
show.

bank Valley Chapter, took top
honors in the Jersey show with her
three-year-old. She also won both
the Junior and senior champion

McClelland, who took both the
reserve Junior and reserve senior
champion awards.
Lawrence County’s Wilmington
FFA garnered three out four
champion titles in the Holstein
show. Dean Kind was the big
winner, showing his three-year-old
to grand champion honors, and
taking the Junior champion title
with his intermediate calf. Scott
Snyder’s intermediate yearling
was named reserve junior

Regional Dairy Show
champion.
Two chapters from Lawrence
County dominated most of the
colored breed shows. Mohawk
FFA claimed the grand and Junior
championships in the Guernsey
show, with Betsy Perschke
claiming top honors with her dry,
aged cow. Fellow member
Christina McDowell took the Junior
and reserve grand titles with a
Junior calf.
The Wilmington Chapter came
out on top in both the Brown Swiss
and Ayrshire shows. Jeffrey
Moon’s aged Brown Swiss was
senior and grand champion, while
Walter Gerber took the reserve
junior championship.
Janelle Kennedy took reserve
grand honors with her two-year
old, while her senior calf was
named junior champion. She is a
member of Butler County’s Knoch
FFA.
Scott Snyder claimed the junior
and grand championships with his
senior yearling Ayrshire, while
Lona Rader captured senior and
reserve grand honors on her dry
three-year-old. Her intermediate
calf was declared reserve junior
champion.
Junta Laughery, of Erie
County’s Corry FFA, was the lone
competitor in the Milking Shor
thorn show. Her dry, aged cow was
named grand champion, while her
junior two-year-old followed with
reserve honors.

Meadville and West Central Farm
Credit Associations.
