For Poultry, Eggs
WASHINGTON - Secretary of
Agriculture Richard E. Lyng
recently announced plans for a $6
million program to expand poultry

countries.
Lyng said promotional activities
will be carried out through an
agreement between the U.S.
Department of Agriculture’s
Foreign Agricultural Service and
the USA Poultry and Egg Export
Council, which represents the U.S.
poultry industry.
Promotional activities will be
targeted at expanding con
sumption of poultry and eggs in
Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore,
Egypt, Iraq, Saudi Arabia,
Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates
Yemen and Bahrain.
The dollar value of U.S. salels to
these countries dropped from $370
million in 1980 to $175 million in
1985, Lyng said, a loss of 53 per
cent. Export subsidies, primarily
from the European community,
accounted for most of this loss.
