D4-Lancaster Farming Saturday, August 2,1986 Heagy, BY JACK HUBLEY LEBANON Former Penn State swine specialist Matt Parsons came down from Massachusetts this week and found Pennsylvania pork to be in good trim. Parsons, who currently runs a swine con sulting business and came south to judge the Lebanon Fair’s market hog show on Monday, remarked that the show was characterized by good quality pigs all the way through. One pig that caught his eye, though, was a Duroc-Yorkshire gilt shown by Shelby Heagy of Lebanon. “She did the best job of combining muscling, leanness and volume,” said Parsons. The show’s grand champion was bred by Miss Heagy’s grandfather, Leon Arnold, a well-known Lebanon breeder. Sired by the “Extra” boar owned A Poland China-Duroc cross shown by Daryl Grumbine took reserve honors.
