Del Val Dean Named to NACTA Post
DOYLESTOWN - John C.
Mertz, Doylestown, was named
Eastern Regional Director-elect of
the National Association of
Colleges and Teachers of
Agriculture at the annual con
ference, held June 15-18 at
Ridgetown College of Agricultural
Technology, Ridgetown, Ontario,
Canada.
Dr. Mertz is Dean of Academic
Affairs at Delaware Valley College
in Doylestown, where he also
teaches Genetics and Biological
Science.
Youth To Attend Forestry Camp
LEBANON Duane Sweigart, a
member of the Lebanon County
Wildlife Club, attended the Penn
sylvania Youth Forestry Camp at
Stone Valley this week. He
received a scholarship sponsored
by Walter H. Weaber Sons, Inc.,
Lebanon, and the Lebanon County
4-H Development Fund.
Youth Forestry Camp offers
young people an opportunity to
learn about forest resources. The
Lebanon 4-H Benefit Sale
Co-chairman of this year's Lebanon County 4-H Auction,
Sean McKinney, left, Larry Groff, right, and Mike Firestine,
seated on horse, all of Lebanon Valley National Bank, are
gearing up for the annual event to be held at the Lebanon
Fairgrounds July 31 at 7:30 p.m. Among the several hundred
items to be sold is the standard-bred horse pictures above.
The horse was donated by Reuben Stoltzfus of Myerstown.
Other sale items include a John Deere pedal tractor, a 24-
inch circular barn fan, various hog equipment and toy im
plements.

For one year, Mertz will assist
current Regional Director, John
Brand of the University of Con
necticut, then he will serve a two
year term in that post. As such, he
is a member of the National
Executive Committee of NACTA.
At the recent conference, Mertz
headed the Resolutions Com
mittee, which drafted formal
action for the association, and
served as chairman pro tern of the
Teacher Recognitions and Awards
Committee. He is now chairman of
'that committee.
NACTA offers 15 major awards
camp serves as an introduction to
basic forest management skills,
the forest products industry and
careers in the field of forest
resources.
The highlight of the program is a
field trip to a forest products in
dustry and a timber harvesting
operation.
Campers must have a
scholarship to attend.
to teachers of agriculture who
excell in their jobs. The Awards
Committee solicits nominations
and submits dossiers for con
sideration. Past recipients from
Delaware Valley College are Dr.
David Blumenfield, professor of
